The Tom Ryan Appreciation Thread

Carey was moved off Storey that day? Cant remember that at all. Was Carey made the free man once Scallan was sent off perhaps?

The failure of Kirby particularly and even the likes of Houlihan to fire was probably the biggest reason they lost.

It’s nothing personal. I can’t give him much credit for the success of the 90s team and in fact he probably held them back on a few occasions, mentioned elsewhere in this thread. Since then he has taken advantage of every soapbox going to mouth off, I’ve not time for him.

Tough to fire with a broken hand.

I think Limericks undoing in 96 and i suppose 94 to a certain extent was that they lost all the momentum they built up in munster by the time the all ireland final came around. They basically were stale from early july to september because the semi final against Antrim in both those years was just a training match.Limerick were on fire in munster in 96 but by the time September came around that fire was dampened.

Yes, but the alternative to playing Antrim was Galway , have a look at limericks championship record against them…

Dave Mahedy made that point in Unlimited Heartbreak. I accept the point below about Limerick having a poor record against Galway but in 1994 and 1996, Galway were not particularly strong. Offaly and Wexford did not have many scary moments against them in 1994 and 1996. But then again tradition is tradition and maybe we might have come undone against them.

There was nothing to fear about Galway in those days. They were always liable to shit the course!Even though Galway are a better than Cork at the moment i would always feel that we would be in with a shout against them.Cork teams would always fancy their chances against Galway.

Tom is fucking seething tonight by all accounts.

Come back to us Tom, all is forgiven.

I passed Richie Bennis last night going into the match. Now Richie was not perfect when in charge but when we were beaten he took it personally and felt as bad as any of the players or supporters. He was distraught whenever we lost and Tom Ryan, for his faults, was the same. Say what you want about them they eat, drink and sleep Limerick GAA so for that alone I’ll always have time, respect and gratitude for them. We’ve never had that manic desire on the sideline under the last three managers, that useless cunt Justin in particular.

We’ll have to appoint locally when Allen leaves later this year and at the moment there is no outstanding candidate screaming for obvious appointment.

Tom Ryan is a legend and Eamonn Cregan shafted him the pr!ck as Limerick manager!I started a Tom Ryan thread over on the PROC site with some more wonderful stories about Tom.
