The Ultrarunning Thread

Not a hope anyone is finishing it this year. 10 out on second loop and still not back in. Unlikely at this stage that someone will even complete a fun run (three loops)

Stumbled on this last night. Your man couldn’t give a fuck, just wants people to enjoy themselves. Runners/ joggers/ walkers in all shapes and sizes.

How come there was so few finishers this year? Lack of international competitors?

There’s been 15 finishers in 30something years, so I wouldn’t just put it down to lack of international competitors.

Eoin Keith, the Irish ultrarunner who has won the Spine and other multi-day races in the past, told me that the Barkley was by far and away the toughest race he ever did. He said the temperature fluctuations and conditions combined with the terrain and elevation make it almost impossible to complete.

I wonder is Laz sitting on a potential tourism goldmine there, what would people pay to have a go at a single lap in the weeks after the race?
Not that Laz gives a shit about that

It’s also not his land to make the money off

Wexford’s Paddy O’Leary one of the runners in the Canyons 100k today. If he comes top 2, he gets a spot at Western States this summer. He won this race 5 years ago, albeit on a somewhat different course. I’d say he will come top 5 but miss out on top 2

Our man was 11th last update but no news in over an hour. That was a little past the halfway

Edit: up to 8th at 40 mile point

100 mile world record went today 11:14.
6:45 a mile.

For good measure he decided to go on and break the 12 hour distance world record

Unreal.

Finished 8th overall. Look at the elevation gain :joy:

400 odd laps of a track? That’s ridiculous running

That’s actually not huge elevation for that distance. The pace is fucking insane…he’s a real elite.

The lad who did the 3000metres last week did a 60k run yesterday with 4000m+.

Bloody hell

I saw that. :slightly_frowning_face::slightly_frowning_face::slightly_frowning_face:

Those fellas might have it bad but I just went for a run in the thunder, lightning and hailstones and accidentally discarded the activity as I finished. It’s like it never happened.
