It’s remarkably cheap to enter. The logistics are awesome. I think it less than £500. An Ironman is something mental like £700 now. A reflection of the best of England, fuelled by volunteers. Like the FRA. The average race cost is about £9 or a tenner on the day, which includes tea and cake at the end.

He’s actually correct. A lot of extreme sportspersons are, well, extreme.

Same as IMRA. The short races are €7 or something like that.

Could be an interesting venn diagram that could be made with ultrarunners and addiction, mental health problems and scientists (huge amount of the successful ones come from a science background)

It’s brilliant. There’s one within an hour’s drive every weekend all year if you like that kind of thing. A great day out for a tenner plus petrol. I’m not knocking 10k city runs, but they’re silly money a lot of them.

Throw in introverts and you’d have a big intersection.

Lads were giving out last year when they were charging €70 for the Beara Way ultra (170km).

That paid for their entry, tracking, six or seven aid stations, a hoodie, a selection of whiskies, etc., food at finish. :man_shrugging:

You can’t please some!

Again, off the backs of volunteers. Same lads giving out woul pay a fiver for a coffee, 8 euro for a pint and £50 for a hoodie without blinking.

Of course they are, I have a mate who’s an elite ultra runner,

It’s the repetitive spamming that bores me

Ultra spamming?

Might get a woman finisher this year.

Misogynist alert

17 finishers in its history to do the full 5 laps. The only woman to finish three laps is in the field. She’s on 4th loop at moment. Don’t think she will make it now.

By God. @Mac .

Five finishers. Last one with less than 2 minutes left.

That’s ridiculous. They’ve hardly made it easier have they?

Weather was better.
You’ve a lot of experienced people doing it. But the first lad in was a first timer. Jared Campbell with 4th finish (a record), John Kelly with 3rd. Lad from New Zealand who had got to four loops. Damian Hall’s third time getting the four but still hasn’t finished it.
