The waxing lyrical about the issues with the Mayo Footballing Psyche Thread

You reckon? I dunno, he was never far off and is an astute man. I’d be wary of going back, but it has to be either him or Rochford.

Moran didn’t pull up any trees in Leitrim (though @Chancer would have been delighted if he did)

Sligo have gone backwards this year, and i mean well back.

I’d go for Rochford. He was the best manager they ever had. His ability to think outside the box was unparalelled in my time watching football. Dillon as a sweeper vs Tyrone and taking him off at HT. AOS at full back on Donaghy. He got them closer vs Dublin than anyone.

I was very disappointed with them, but perhaps his time was up/he was jaded. Its a bit of a trek that one.

He done alright with what he had to be fair. Our scoring average went well up tbf from the dreaded 11/12/13 pts per game to nearly 20 I’d say. But defensively were were very poor.He brought in that cavan bollix to sort that out but i had very little effect.Look at the scores monaghan are putting up since he joined compared to before.Obviously the new rules probably help.

To be honest he got them to Div 3 and thats as far as he could get them in my opinion. The disappointment was the defeat to Wicklow in the TC who I believe are better

After all the hullabaloo I was expecting the county board to be cutting and cuntish. For fucks sake what an over reaction from the usuals online. The GAA community has gone soft. They should have at least thrown in a Kevin McLeave joke.

Whatever chance he had evaporated in the Hyde.

Which is ironic because usually you’re in more danger of drowning in the Hyde.

Ultimately didn’t win the All Ireland and this would be his third time at it.

Absolute box office. I discuss Mayo more regularly than all other counties combined including Clare in Whatsapps. Enthralling.

So much madness:

  • Takeover of Time Square and singing above in the steps
  • Jimmy Sloyan
  • Warehouse residency
  • The battles with Dublin
  • The benefactors…

And but for an Aidan O’Shea dive against Fermanagh and a Conor Loftus rasper of a goal against a then fourth division Derry they would have been knocked out in the first round of the qualifiiers.

Not unlike close to 100 years of Mayo managers, and he got them closer than most.

I must admit, I wouldnt be against the idea of McEntee, but you have to go back to the stat about outside managers winning All Irelands and realise you’re better off with your own*

*Unless you’re a shower of bastards like ourselves who have no chance of winning fuck all and who’d cut the back off their own as soon as he gets the job

Two own goals in an All Ireland final…

Well the sligo support was very split on McEntee, some wanted rid of him years ago.I just think his time was up.Theres good potential in Sligo with the underage success they’ve had the last few years. They could definitely make it to Div2 and play in the Sam Maguire.
