šŸŒ¬ The Weather Thread part 2

Snow porn from the red tops and click baiters really boil my soup.

Met Eireann have been warning of a cold spell early next week
@BruidheanChaorthainn is ignoring my questions on this thread but I have an interest in the weather, if people here are genuinely plotting future weather themselves Iā€™d love to know what ye are using, Iā€™m obviously a sceptic but Iā€™d welcome the opportunity to learn

Is this the start of the six weeks?

That's next Tuesday

@BruidheanChaorthainn was making his prediction on the back of a Sudden Stratospheric Warming event in arctic early in the new year. Those type of events have the potential to displace cold air in the north and push it down towards us. Thatā€™s where the predictions of an extended cold spell were coming from. The current one models look like it could be anything from 3 days to a week, properly kicking in from Sunday.

No one is able to accurately predict the weather over anything longer than 4 or 5 days.

Thereā€™s a weather thread on boards.ie. Canā€™t remember the exact one, but it seems to be mainly populated by astrophysics types and PhD level boffins. Itā€™s very interesting.

You are going to trigger a few lads here. My predictions were only out by a few miles. A lot of Britain has been experiencing heavy snowfall.

Thatā€™s my point
Met Eireann with their world class equipment and access to every available resource knows all about the events in the Arctic and everywhere else,
My question is what would you or anybody else know more than them that youā€™d be prepared to deviate massively from what they are predicting, if youā€™re just looking at the weather forecast it hardly counts

RTE canā€™t exactly call it until they are near certainā€¦ Part time weather men like @TreatyStones can run as many models and speculate as much as he wants

I think you are being harsh on him.
All he did was throw out the potential for something to happen.
Met Eireann donā€™t tend to issue long term predictions because they are so volatile.

Youā€™d also have to say @TreatyStones has probably saved a few lives with his early calls where RTE have left it too late.

Correct but anything he doesnā€™t know about he dismisses off hand.

Itā€™s about percentages and making educated guesses as to whatā€™ll happen based on similar examples. Nobody said it was an exact science. My predictions really triggered a few lads.

As Mahatma Gandhi said, ā€œIf you can predict the winner of a horse race, you can predict the weatherā€

Iā€™m not being harsh, Iā€™m just asking, I havenā€™t been involved in the six week nonsense talk, I asked a few questions and got no answers, meteorology is a science,
I heard Evelyn Cusack absolutely eviscerate one of those quacks on the radio one day and I actually felt sorry for him

You can see why @BruidheanChaorthainn was off by a few hundred miles so.

As Dara Ghani said, if you can rob a house you can rob a bank

You dismissed long range weather forecasting as a nonsense. There is zero point in discussing with you in my eyes. Itā€™s a passion of mine and I couldnā€™t care less what others think.

Bud. Youā€™ve spent the last few months going around the place trying to drive lads mental about the weather.

My prediction will drive so and so mental.

Expect a bit back

He is wondering why I donā€™t answer his queries.
