Itā€™s like when people in Shannon Banks were complaining about flooding.

Did Tomas never do geography in school.

Or all the fellas in Kildare who bought the houses built on a flood plain

Iā€™ve been to Sars a few times, from what i recall the pitch is well below the level of the road outside

He has been advocating for advance flood warning systems and defences for a long time, but was recently castigated by climate change loons for it.

Nah, @Ambrose_McNulty said the drains were blocked

They didnā€™t even open the shoreholes here until the place was already flooded

We might need bigger drains in the coming century, petal.

Today was a once in a generation weather event but unfortunately it looks like itā€™s going to be repeated on Friday.

Places like Clashmore, Glanmire & Midleton are enclosed by higher ground with streams etc feeding into larger river passages.

They are bound to flood when it rains heavily, always have & always will.

What happened in Midleton was two fold problem wise. Huge rainfall matched to a drainage system unable to get the water away due to level of area and poor planning for all the Business Parks & Housing Estates over the last 3 decades.

In fairness to Carlow Weather chap, he warned that flooding was a definite risk with weather projections last wknd.
Main Street in Midleton definitely hadnā€™t seen itā€™s sewer system checked beforehand to hold the water it held today.

A dredging of the rivers every once in a while would help prevent this too
