read the post you half wit, he made a choice so that his kid would have a better life, thats to be respected, he will be livin the dream in a few years whe he sets up his own business on the central coast but is putting in the hard yards now so as to make that happen
I live on the Central Coast, about 90kms north of Sydney and work in the inner west in Sydney. The drive in is normally 1 1/2 - 2 hours and back in peak hour and then I’m out most days for a meeting or two around the Sydney metro area (have to go to Newcastle on Thursday, hour drive up there from home, then 2 1/2 hours back to Sydney). Rather than spending a ridiculous amount on a shitty little house in Sydney, we opted to move to the coast to buy a decent house on a large block for about 1/3 the price of a similar house in Sydney. IT’s better on the coast as well. But job opportunities aren’t great, so I continue to work in Sydney as the money is good and the missus can study at uni and the young fella has a great lifestyle. I work from home some mornings, so it’s not too bad. I don’t mind it, spend a lot of time on the phone in the car working. I’ll probably do this for a couple years more as I’m looking at maybe starting my own business on the coast when the missus finishes uni and starts working.
Loads of people I know in Sydney have these ridiculous mortgages, live in not great houses, both partners have to work to feed the mortgage and still spend up to an hour getting to work every day.
I’m ahead of them I think, plus I get to be involved in my beloved Central Coast Mariners.

Read the post you half-wit. He wishes him well but considers his sacrifice too much.

As I said to each their own and best of luck to him.
However for me the idea of sacrificing current enjoyment for future enjoyment that may never exist is not something I can buy into.

Do you eat your dessert before the starter mate?

I’m not a big sand eater mate.

unfortunately in this day and age you need to instill the desire and understanding into your kids that reward comes as a result of hard work and sacrifice. id much rather kids see daddy get off his hole and do the hours and lead by example than be the daddy that is a borderline layabout around the house every evening who does just enough to get by and who is planting the notions that lack of ambition is fine.
i think @Fitzy has it covered both ways though, he has his beloved west coast mariners whoever the fuck those cunts are and he has his polytunnel, his kids will be fine.

If everyone had this attitude, we would all be heroin addicts. You are a disgrace to the board and I hope you die roaring.
strong words softly spoken by the great horsebox and a valid point

Why would we all be heroin addicts for not enslaving ourselves?

Burst your bollox all your life to build up a nice pension so you can retire when you are too old to enjoy it. Don’t be such a fucking mug all your life.

The point I quoted was you talking about not sacrificing current enjoyment for future enjoyment. Why would anybody ever go to the gym or not stuff their faces with fast food filled with quick release endorphins if they only ever lived for the now and never thought of a better future? Why would anybody raise a family, open a savings account or build long term relationships? Your post smacks of immaturity and is symptomatic of the gimme, gimme, gimme current generation of instant gratification with no real values in relation to family, friends or community spirit. It saddened me to read that post.

@Julio Geordio will be singing a different tune when he has to face the real world after the leaving cert.

It’s not that you don’t think of the future, at no point did I say that, it’s that you enjoy your life now. You can spend all your life saying I’ll enjoy myself after we get this sorted etc and never get around to it.
You have to do shit you don’t want like work, but you can limit the impact it has on your life and for me a 4 hour commute isn’t contributing to a better future it is causing a shit now. The opportunity cost of a day of almost a day of your life a week, over a day if you only count waking hours, is far too great for me.
BTW I’m not getting at Fitzy at all here, I couldn’t give a fuck what he does with his time.
Anyway that’s just my opinion, you can enslave yourself all you want.

 The adults are talking here mate.

Don’t snap. Good luck in the exams.

this thread has been a disaster for the Runt/julio axis. Fitzy knocked Runt out of the park earlier and now my bessier Horsebox and Galsagusban are just toying with him now until they get bored and initiate the killer blow.

Julio needs to take some of brezzies advice and allow for some mindfulness exercises so as to destress before the exams
