The Weather Thread

I got absolutely soaked on my way to work.

Were you dressed like a traveller? I could have been Smark splashing you.

A massive downpour of rain attacking pedestrians at an usual angle. I had an umbrella but still got soaked through from the thigh down. I can certainly relate to those refugees walking across Europe through storms and freezing conditions after that commute.

@Rocko, please arrange for a button to temporarily superimpose a Wexford flag over our avatars to demonstrate our solidarity with @bandage.

I was driving in Limerick yesterday and there were puddles all over the road. There was an elderly man and woman on the footpath to my left just as i approached a massive puddle, i veered suddenly out of the way to avoid hitting the puddle and splashing these salt of the earth Limerick folk. True story.

you should have trained in the balcony pal

It’s grand weather in letterkenny lads.

Had to turn back around 300 yards from the house this morning and go home and change suits. Soaked to the bone from head to toe. Been a long time since I’ve been caught in rain like that. By the time I changed clothes and managed to get a taxi, the rain had completely stopped. Dublin is now under a bright, blue sky. What a country.

Where we reside (not together) is what I call the Grand Canal Basin and there’s often a driving wind blowing directly down towards the Dock. So it’s a nightmare when you’re walking up towards Slattery’s (cc @dodgy_keeper and @Rintintin) when it’s already windy if there’s a deluge too. The downpour this morning was something else. I was caught halfway between home and my destination so I proceeded onwards.

I had to go to a meeting this morning at the offices of a professional services firm. It’s a 10 minute walk from my office. I was armed with a sturdy umbrella and was wearing my longish winter coat. I presumed I would be ok. I was very very wrong. There was a downpour at around 8.52am that lasted about 20 seconds. It was the worst rain I’ve ever seen in this country. I got absolutely soaked from the knees down. My shoes were fucking squelching. To add to the horror I started walking faster than I normally would to get in out of the rain and hence started to sweat a little.

I then had to sit in a meeting for 1.5 hours in that state. It was torture. Was completely off form in the meeting. Bought new socks and put on my ‘back-up’ shoes on when I got back to my office but I’m still off form. Off to a meeting at @Bandage’s place of work shortly and I’m gonna be shit at that too. I just need this day to end.

Ouch. Shitty day pal. I was up and out at 6am, so ahead of the really heavy rain. I really miss my Fulton Cyclone - bought in UK, but stolen from Mrs. Moth in Dublin. Fiberglass shaft, wind-tested up to 78mph, I could go on. I think Debenhams are selling them - must take a look. Highly recommend this umbrella.

I was caught in that epic downpour too. Sending you my solidarity, pal.

There’s a bar in Rio called the Balcony bar… If you are ever in town, drop in. You’ll get a tug in no time.

I was actually just at Slatterys when I had to turn back. The umbrella I had wasn’t worth a wank and I was getting fairly soaked anyway. When I was waiting at that junction to cross, a huge squall came in, turning my umbrella inside out and just soaked everything. I may as well have dunked myself in the canal. Had a 3 minute walk home or a 20 minute walk to work ahead looking like a drowned rat. Only one decision there.

Chocolatemice is bone dry. Nothing to report except a cracking afternoon in Limerick.

That makes 3 of us. Thats the one that did for me. @briantinnion I am also wearing my back up shoes but they are alarmingly scruffy looking today. I am moving at a fair clip whenever I leave my desk lest anyone get a good look at them.

real windy cycling home yesterday
