Iâm just saying, you are blaming smoking when the Germans smoke more and are fairing better. Doesnât seem to be a very water tight hypothesis.
Every country will have a % of smokers, these will almost certainly be worse affected than non smokers, but I donât see how it could account for the differences which is what you are claiming.
Anyway. Iâm not wasting anymore of my time on this.
Anyone who has been to China wouldnât be in the slightest surprised at the rate this spread initially.
The Germans are fairing better because the profile of those getting infected, just like in Korea, is younger. Sorry for introducing a second variable, I know itâs taxing.
Play nice.
You didnât mate. Thatâs my point, both have smokers, Germans even more so. I wouldnât expect you to understand though so donât worry about it
Age mate, age is the second variable, actually the first as itâs the most significant. I have a few more variables as well is you can handle it.
Sorry mate, Iâll try and emulate your stoic nature.
If we are all fucked is anyone fucked?
He still hasnât debunked my too much pizza is causing it hypothesis.
Oh ⌠Blessed are the cheese-makers. Thatâs nice.
Any simple home remedies for skin literally cracking open from hand washing?
It depends what you mean by fucked.
What would yâall think will be the economic results of this? Collapse of banks? Shares wiped out for folk? Civil unrest? Us getting in dingys to Africa?
I just got this from a relative:
This is absolutely BRILLIANT and exactly the kind of thing that people SHOULD be posting and sharing as much as possible.
No fear mongering, alarmist statements, just good, solid, straightforward advice.
Good advice from a nurse - wish I knew her/his name to give credit
âSo what I have seen a lot of is recommendations for how to try to avoid getting coronavirus in the first place â good hand washing, personal hygiene and social distancing â but what I have NOT seen a lot of is advice for what happens if you actually get it, which many of us will. So as your friendly neighborhood Nurse let me make some suggestions.
You basically just want to prepare as though you know youâre going to get a nasty respiratory bug, like bronchitis or pneumonia. You just have the foresight to know itâs coming!
Things you should actually buy ahead of time (not sure what the obsession with toilet paper is?): Kleenex, Paracetamol, whatever your generic mucus thinning cough medicine of choice is (check the label and make sure youâre not doubling up on Paracetamol) Honey and lemon can work just as well! Vick vaporub for your chest is also a great suggestion.
If you donât have a humidifier, that would be a good thing to buy and run in your room when you go to bed overnight. (You can also just turn the shower on hot and sit in the bathroom breathing in the steam). If you have a history of asthma and you have a prescription inhaler, make sure the one you have isnât expired and refill it/get a new one if it is.
This is also a good time to meal prep: make a big batch of your favorite soup to freeze and have on hand. Stock up on whatever your favorite clear fluids are to drink - though tap water is fine you may appreciate some variety!
For symptom management and a fever over 101, take Paracetamol.
Hydrate (drink!) hydrate hydrate! Rest lots. You should not be leaving your house! Even if you are feeling better may will still be infectious for fourteen days and older people and those with existing health conditions should be avoided! Ask friends and family to leave supplies outside to avoid contact.
You DO NOT NEED TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL unless you are having trouble breathing or your fever is very high (over 103.5) and unmanaged with meds. 90% of healthy adult cases thus far have been managed at home with basic rest/hydration/over-the-counter meds. If you are worried or in distress or feel your symptoms are getting worse, ring 111 and they will advise if you need to go to hospital. The hospital beds will be used for people who actively need oxygen/breathing treatments/IV fluids.
If you have a pre-existing lung condition (COPD, emphysema, lung cancer) or are on immunosuppressants, now is a great time to talk to your Doctor or specialist about what they would like you to do if you get sick.
One major relief to you parents is that kids do VERY well with coronavirusâ they usually bounce back i
n a few days (but they will still be infectious), Just use pediatric dosing . Be calm and prepare rationally and everything will be fine.
My question is how soon will the need to improve the economies of the world trump the need to adequately manage the virus.
They are certainly not compatible.
Another way of stating this is how long before a collapsing economy limits the ability to respond to this new disease. Every decade going back many decades we have seen extensions in life spans, diseases conquered, great advances in fighting many cancers, child mortality plummeting, etc. This has all been driven by a growing economy, investment in health care, investment in drug discovery, etc.
To think of all the tissue paper wasted on wanking over the yearsâŚ
You didnât know pizza causes lung damage?
Dairy has an adverse affect on the lungs - or lung disease.
You didnât mate. Thatâs my point, both have smokers, Germans even more so. I wouldnât expect you to understand though so donât worry about it
Am I ok to keep smoking?
