And you can only postpone it once. A friend of mine over here got called but had a holiday booked so couldnāt do it. He was told that heād be called again within 18 months and heād have to attend regardless of any prior commitments.

Being away in college or have a distant relation in the police/legal field are the old reliable excuses.
As far as Iām aware there is not. Thankfully Iāve not been called yet. I know a few who have done it. One lad was on it and the case got dismissed because the defendant was giving it big licks outside the court during a recess how heād done it but was going to get away with it because his solicitor was so good. One of the jurors was out having a smoke and overheard it all.

That being a sanctuary city in the US is actually something that is formalised and not just places where a blind eye is turned

Yeah Iād often heard of it but didnāt realise it was a formal thing. Makes sense.
It was brought in because illegals were afraid to call the police/be witnesses etc for fear of being deported, so it made crime worse.
