The qwerty keyboard was designed to be very inefficient as early typewriters would jam if the keys were hit too rapidly in succession

Iā€™m going to need some proof for this one.

Heard this actually, very interesting tid bit, probably a factoid.

It also spells out ā€œtypewriterā€ in the top row so the salesmen wouldnā€™t look like idiots searching for the keys.

Ah I just read it in the book ā€˜Guns Germs and Steelā€™, he mentioned studies conducted in the 20th century which proved that it was incredibly inefficient though by that stage there were so many with vested interests in keeping the old system to the fore that it was gonna be more trouble than it was worth to fix it

Thereā€™s a theory there alright but I donā€™t think weā€™ll ever know for sure.
