Church and General Insurance was founded by the Irish Catholic hierarchy in 1902 to insure Church owned schools hospitals and churches. It was originally called the Irish Catholic Property Insurance Company and changed its name to Church and General in the 1960s. It was sold to Allianz in 1998.
