Things I learned today (Part 2)

What do you mean, you just want to make a victim of yourself?

Nobody called you a virgin

I didn’t call you a virgin either mate, try not to be so sensitive.

Not directly. But I mentioned I was interested in going and he then chimed in with that shite.

He’d be the first one in if I said “all teachers are cunts” (I don’t believe that, just in case anyone gets too literal).

If I’m a stupid cunt for liking some (and I mean only some) of what Peterson says, just say it.

Nasty stuff. Bullying should always be called out

I wouldn’t, I’m not that sensitive, how could all teachers be cunts? Lots probably are

Streets of New York, which was a huge hit for The Wolfe Tones, was written by Liam Reilly, Bagatelle front man and Eurovision contestant.

‘Somewhere in Europe’. I remember it as a young lad.

Meet me in Paris

That was just before the four in five years.

I think we may have given the Italians 12 points to seal our fate at the Liam Reilly time. He finished second. 1990 or 1991.

  1. A double whammy from the Italians on us that year

The lyrics of Somewhere in Europe were gas, a blatant pull on as many locations in Europe as he could muster. God bless young MBB, but he knew almost all of them. I now see I got the chorus wrong. I always had it as

We could be in Rome again, if we’re ready to go tonight.

Somewhere in Europe lyrics

It’s been a long time since we were together

I’m back in Ireland and I miss you more than ever

In early spring we parted and I’ve been here since then

But if I could only see you once again

Meet me in Paris on a Champs-ÉlysĂ©es night

We could be in Rome again, ‘neath the Trevi fountain light

We should be together, and maybe we just might

If you could only meet me somewhere in Europe tonight

I remember Amsterdam as we sailed along the canal

And as the leaves began to fall, we were walking in old Bruxelles

In the Black Forest on a German summer’s day

And the memories refuse to go away

Meet me in Paris on a Champs-ÉlysĂ©es night

We could be in Rome again, ‘neath the Trevi fountain light

We should be together, and maybe we just might

If you could only meet me somewhere in Europe

Don’t you remember those Adriatic days?

I miss your laughter and all your little ways

I can still see you in London, walking on Trafalgar Square

And drinking wine in Old Seville, how I wish that we were there

Meet me in Paris on a Champs-ÉlysĂ©es night

We could be in Rome again, ‘neath the Trevi fountain light

We should be together, maybe we just might

If you could only meet me somewhere in Europe tonight

Meet me in Paris on a Champs-ÉlysĂ©es night

We could be in Rome again, ‘neath the Trevi fountain light

We should be together, and maybe we just might

If you could only meet me somewhere in Europe tonight

Somewhere in Europe tonight

Somewhere in Europe

Reilly also wrote another emigration song called ‘flight of the earls’ which was popular for a few years but never caught on like Streets of New York

I love Streets of NY, the line ‘and he wept as he told me go ahead with the plan, and not to forget, be a proud Irishman’ is lovely in the context of the song
