Things I learned today (Part 2)

BBC Grandstand had a great mini doco on Chris Waddle and Ian Wright on the day of that FA Cup final, I watched it a load of times.

Westmeath won their first and only hurling All Star in 1986 (David Kilcoyne).

Bob Dylan is listed as co-writer of the song Wagon Wheel, even though he has never met the other co-writer (fellas from Old Crow Medicine Show) or performed the song.

Dave Kearney was still playing rugby up until today

Garrycastle of the oft-referenced (on TFK) 2012 All-Ireland club football final fame are down in intermediate. They won their semi-final by 15 points though so Iā€™d say an immediate return to senior should be imminent. One to watch for the Leinster intermediate football championship. They were beaten after a replay by St Lomanā€™s in the senior final as recently as 2021.

The Netherlands is the 2nd largest exporter of agricultural products in the world after the USA, ahead of much larger countries with much more arable land.

Train travel in Holland is fascinating, not a square inch of land is wasted and they have huge amounts of agricultural workers in the fields, nice windmills too :man_shrugging:

They can keep a working dog but water is too valuable to give to pets to drink.

Iā€™ve often looked out from a Dutch train, pondering how we could apply their principles of water management to a few acres of swamp at home, but I think Iā€™ll leave that to the brother.

Is there much in the way of hedges and wildlife?

In the 7-1 loss to Germany in 2014, Brazilā€™s Fred didnā€™t make a single tackle, cross, run/dribble or interception in the whole game. More than half his touches were in the centre circle, kicking off after German goals
