He should just have said Anto McJunkie and Deco O Bottler
There isn’t a publicity stunt under the sun that Sean Og would say no to.
Home and Away being postponed for a week because of simpletons trotting around on horses and other misfits wanting to watch them doing so on TV.
A bloke got sick on me on Saturday night in a nightclub.
Having the craic when captain projectile McChunky tried to make it to a safe puking destination. He was, alas, beaten by his own reflex gagging action. My arm and back bore the brunt of the chunkage.
Given the states I’ve managed to put myself in over my lifetime, I’d say this was a small piece of the karma debt repayed.
Mac claiming DJ Carey’s bird is good looking.
Mac claiming DJ was “arguably” the greatest ever hurler!!!
He isn’t even Killkenny’s greatest ever hurler for fuck sake, there is no argument.
I’d have no issue with someone saying DJ is arguably the greatest ever hurler. Its Shefflin of course, but you could aruge for one or the other.
He’s no where near the best ever. The best turn it on when their team is in trouble, and they always perform at the highest level no matter weather itas the weakest team in the comp or the strongest. DJ cannot say this. Shefflin can, as can a good few others.
In your opinion. I would argue that when DJ was in his prime he didnt have the hurlers around him that Shefflin has now.
Its all opinion really, but at least we can both agree, that its either Shefflin or DJ.
Nah Bando, I just see bags of money running around the track. $$
No we can’t.
DJ had some brilliant players around them, get away outta that. There was a KK dip alright when he was going well, but his start and end of career was full of good team mates. Don’t get me wrong, he is one of the best hurlers ever, but for me nowhere near the greatest because of several poor big day performances. Eoin Kelly has been as good IMO.
In my lifetime and from what i’ve seen i’d say the very best players were Nicky English, Pat Fox, Declan Ryan, John Fenton, JBM, Brian Corcoran, Colin Lynch, Brian Lohan, Tony Browne, Shefflin, DJ, Ben O’ Connor, Paul Flynn, Pat Carroll, Ciaran Carey, Seanis MacMahon, Jamsie O’ Connor, Liam Dunne, Adrian Fenlon off the top of my head.
The only ones that stand out from the crowd to me there are Shefflin, i think its safe to say the best, followed by Seanie Mac, Kelly, Corcoran, Fenton and Nicky in no particular order. Big day players.
Lot of lads on your list there that I wouldn’t even put in the stratosphere of DJ and Shefflin, but I understand how some people can be blinded by players from their own county which is fair enough. You wouldnt see many of them included in top 3 lists done up by people from outside of your own county though.
Shocking omission of Tommy Walsh there Kev.
What are you on about, there is only 4 players from 19 from “my” county. I would obviously have seen more of them, but this county has won 8 All-Irelands in my time, so it would make sense that a few would be in the best players around. If i was being biased i wouldn’t have picked a KK man as the best of the lot.
Who wouldn’t you have in that list out of interest, from Cork that is now.
Ya, your right Fran. I was thinking earlier and was actually finding it easier to remember the older player. As i said it was just off top of my head. Tommy would even be in the very best list to be fair. For what he does even with his size restriction is enough for a top 3 place.
I’d go Shefflin, Kelly, Walsh.
I wouldn’t put Corcoran or Ben in the league of Carey or Shefflin. While we’re at it Pilkington was ten times the hurler Fenlon was and stood up on far more occasions than Fenlon did.
However tis all conjecture.
I really think your underestimating the big day thing. A guy who can do it on the big day, against the very best is what makes them a top top player.
Of course it does Jamie. DJ has more than done it on big days, and done it on many a big day for KK when he was on his own. But again, its all conjecture and opinion and I understand how people will always hold differing views.
Your right on Pilkinton, had fogotten about him. I would concede DJ was a better hurler than Ben, but again Ben had better finals.
Corcoran is the No.1 Cork man for me, how you could say he’s not up there is strange to me. What are you basing it on? THe one bad big day against Offaly?
He was an All-Star in 3 very different positions, that for me makes him a stand out. We wouldn’t have won the last 3 All-Irelands without him, thats how important he was. KK would have won 2002 & 2003 without DJ.
