In my time watching GAA I have witnessed some bad decisions. But Saturday takes the prize as the most bizarre decision I have ever witnessed.
It was in the Kerry Hurling Championship Semi Final between Kilmoyley & Lixnaw. I have a few mates playing with Kilmoyley so I went along to Austin Stack park for a gander.
Anyway with about 5 minutes to go Kilmoyley are 4 points down and win a 21 yard free in front of the goals. Shane Brick who plays for Kilmoyley is a bit of a specialist in these situations. Up he steps and smashes it into the net.
Then the madness started, as Brick was hitting the free the Lixnaw goalkeeper had run out Anthony Nash style to about the ten yard line in a vain attempt to stop the effort.
So what did the referee do? He ordered the free to be retaken and booked the goalie!!! Lixnaw then saved the retaken effort and Kilmoyley lost their chance. On balance Lixnaw probably deserved the win, but fucking hell it was a retarded decision that rewarded the offender.
To make matters worse Kerry Championship matches are actually reffed by outside referees after an incident a few years back where one of the refs got a few slaps off the Ballyduff crowd, so this was reffed by Inter county referee John Sexton from Cork, supposedly one of the best.

It may not be the wrongest thing in the world but it is fucking ignorant. Look at Cluxton yesterday going up to accept the cup, gloves were off were to shake hands and accept the cup as they should be. Then other night in the EA sports cup the Shamrock rovers keeper never took off his gloves and even the fucking sub keeper had his gloves on, I just dont understand why before the match they leave one glove off to shake hands and at the end of the match take off their gloves to shake hands. It is even worse when they are shaking hands with dignitaires and they dont take off their gloves, ok most dignitaires might be right cunts but still have a bit respect.
