Things That Are Wrong

A tap is nearly always as bad as a slap.

.

I’m thinking the sort of person who would electrocute themselves as a result of an unfunny cunt on the radio is someone who won’t be missed.

.

Ah, that makes complete sense then

Oasis - All Around The World.

Heard it in a shop at lunchtime. Truly their nadir.

Dire.

Not sure about their nadir though. They had a lot of them.

All around the world, you’ve got to spread the word
Tell them what you heard
We’re gonna make a better day
All around the world, you’ve got to spread the word
Tell them what you heard
You know it’s gonna be o.k.

It definitely is. It’s pure…“shit, we need an anthemic song…any ideas? Nah. Stick on Hey Jude there 100 times so and then let us into an expensive studio with a suitcase full of cocaine for a week.”

Their lyrics were appalling at the best of times. Supersonic is a notable case in point.

I know a girl called Elsa
She’s into Alka Seltzer
She sniffs it through a cane on a supersonic train
She made me laugh
I got her autograph
She done it with a doctor on a helicopter
She’s sniffin in her tissue
Sellin’ the Big Issue

Still a good tune though.

Oasis - D’You Know What I Mean

I wouldn’t go as far as saying a classic but that and Some Might Say are probably the best things they have done in my view.

I think Stop Crying Your Heart Out is worse. Again, an attempt to produce something which would instantly be seen as a classic so they went down the Snow Patrol route of a ballady type thing. Utter dirge.

You can always count on farmer for an unbiased critique of Oasis

Re @farmerinthecity and Oasis - It’s about time the big man stopped crying his heart out. They were brilliant. Now fall in.

Generally regarded as the voice of our generation.

God, I’d forgotten that one. A comically bad tune.

It was never really about the music and was all about the swagger of Liam being/playing at being a rock n roll star. It led to a generation of weekend rock n roll stars in this country as well as the UK.

Captured the zeitgest of the times, growing economy, confidence that came from money, mainstreaming of class a drugs, the rock star persona, ego, arrogance and the inevitable decline.
