Things That Are Wrong

That’s spot on Mark. Is it a combination of the Catholic church and our education system? A lot of Irish people have big confidence issues as can be seen by having to get shitfaced before attempting to mate. You get the odd exception like @ChocolateMice who was a very confident guy but a lot of people like @glasagusban have to use alcohol or date rape drugs before they can even talk to the opposite sex.

The Spanish kids study I.T from a young age- The Irish kids were saying how they want to study it at college but know fuck all about it and have to look it up themselves. In Finland, they put emphasis on developing people/citizens rather than a scramble for college/work places, they teach kids hands on and are light on theory for many subjects. The Poles were work-aholics, the kids were blown away by their work rate in class… They also cater for students who don’t want to go college and steer kids off towards apprenticeships, catering, tourism etc etc in their final years of school.

We have a system that puts emphasis on points and that’s it- No thought about the person, careers, basic life skills etc etc - Of course our system favours the middle/upper class as well - grinds/tutorial schools all built on manipulating the points race for rich kids… The cunts can’t make toast by the time they reach college.

A common myth.

The rate for long term unemployed in germany is 384 per month as opposed to 188 per week here. The german figures are skewed by the figures for people working and who then claim 2/3 of their salary in benefits

By trade I was a cooper, lost out to redunancy. Like my house which fell to progress, my trade’s a memory.

Did the bank have you over a barrel?

Don’t be fooled mate, @ChocolateMice would date rape you and your whole family if given half a chance.

No, it’s a line from a traditional Irish song. But you probably wouldn’t have been familiar with it growing up in humberside.

Great post. I can’t understand why our school system is still stuck in the 80s. The Spanish however are terrible at languages, they putting major money into addressing this though and improve levels of English.

The Irish are no longer a great bunch of lads, but they could be…

That is true, the Polish system is heavily academic, even at the later stages of primary. Second level is six years, split into 3 years of “gymnazium” and then there is a divergence into streams for the last 3 years. The academic’s go down that route and the less academic go into apprenticeships etc. And the kids have continuous assessment, even at primary.

An A2 grade in Poland is 91% I believe? In Ireland A2 is 85% …

So the Polish are 6% smarter then?

That is possibly the most meaningless post ever on tfk.

So meaningless you felt the need to point it out and give it meaning. Thanks, mate.

No they set just set higher standards.

You’re welcome.

No - they just grade differently.

I believe most degrees in Poland are 6 years too? Or is that there masters? It’s different to our third level awards system anyway.

Grades are irrelevant in themselves. It all depends on where you are on bell curve. The niceties of grades are lost on communities with third and fourth generation unemployment.

giving a kid who knows nobody who works a house and an income at 16 for getting pregnant encourages teenage pregnancy and the rest that follows
