Native English speakers the world over are usually crap at other languages because they can afford to be. We live in an English speaking world for the most part. Certainly in business English is the default language.

Most popular movies, music all in English. We don’t get a chance to practice our language in most situations. Even in France now there are more and more cinemas showing original language version (English) of Hollywood movies so you hear the real actors etc.

A lot of Europeans live in bi-lingual homes. Only real way to learn a language is to immerse oneself in it and go an live in a country where it is spoken or be constantly exposed to it. If footballers can do it then it is not rocket science.
I hate trying to talk in other languages. I must be my tough Leitrim brogue.

This reminds me, I’m sure its been posted here somewhere, but this is a Leitrim accent right?

Ah Jaysus.

I saw that thing last night.

It was clear a set up. Your man over emphasises the accent.

Hard to believe that educated people would be interested in such drivel.

Much like that Robert cunt who wouldn’t study for his oral, if this was true, it would be an incredibly prick’ish thing to do to your own father regardless.

Fire up some of your thoughts on the irish curriculum there glas…

There has been a huge (enforced) change in the way irish is taught in our schools over the last couple of years. The oral is now worth 40%. So students are now doing a lot more speaking practice.

That just seems to be a money-spinning exercise so a few native speakers can make a few quid out of the language.

I don’t see the harm in that, better than the morbid irish wake

he was a shit boxer 5-15 record. the least they could have done was posed him doing something he was good at. and besides doing selfies with a corpse is just wrong

Really? Fantastic. Have they gotten rid of stair na gaeilge and the writing letters and shit too? I doubt it will make much difference because in my experience the teachers aren’t even able to teach to teach a class in Irish.

Agreed. Never trust a cunny.

What the fuck is the story with Judges & State prosecuting teams in Ireland?

All day long on the Radio i am hearing these stories of,
A : Man gets off a Manslaughter charge for Punching a Taxi driver a few years ago, it was reported by different media outlets that the accused had spent all day drinking roughly 8-9 pints & shots of Jager. The accused could not remember in detail what happened thereafter that night. BUT, he could remember exactly what he had drank! WTF?

B : Same again ref a Rape case where the accused was sentenced this time for 8 years with a few years suspended. Again this fucker claimed he could not remember the assault BUT yet again could say he drank X amount of pints and therefore was too drunk to remember.

@artfoley , please explain this sham to me.

Would lads be granted the same leniency if they were off their heads on heroin?

Exactly. Why is being drunk & apparently having no recollection of events seen as a reasonable defense?

don’t know this case, any chance of a link ?

Carney. but its common now to try and run a defence of intoxication/automation to either defeat the mens rea of the crime or have it as mitigation

It didn’t create it, but it propagated a particularly unpalatable aspect of it.
The Spanish kids study I.T from a young age- The Irish kids were saying how they want to study it at college but know fuck all about it and have to look it up themselves. In Finland, they put emphasis on developing people/citizens rather than a scramble for college/work places, they teach kids hands on and are light on theory for many subjects. The Poles were work-aholics, the kids were blown away by their work rate in class… They also cater for students who don’t want to go college and steer kids off towards apprenticeships, catering, tourism etc etc in their final years of school.

We have a system that puts emphasis on points and that’s it- No thought about the person, careers, basic life skills etc etc - Of course our system favours the middle/upper class as well - grinds/tutorial schools all built on manipulating the points race for rich kids… The cunts can’t make toast by the time they reach college.
The problem as I saw it growing up, was that the country was, and maybe still is, so utterly corrupt and stroke pulling, that anything other than a straight points shoot out would simply have led to all the usual politicos and their offspring getting first dibs on any opportunities. The points system is not great, but it is at least fair in that respect. All educational systems are skewed toward those who are pushed and supported at home.

How did they plead? Guilty plea will knock a few years off. Being off your head drunk will probably knock a few years off. Not at all in defence of any of the above but have you never had nights where you remember exactly what you drank but have a scene missing later on.
