Bitter and self pitying with a racist undertone. Traditional Irish song.
the rapist plead guilty the morning after when the cops arrived, and he also got “good family” credit. that said its a very light sentence for rape
That “good family” Shyte. Wtf is the about? It is only ever mentioned in Ireland. It is utterly fucking irrelevant, in fact, it should be held against a criminal. If I were a judge I would ban it from the courtroom.
Manslaughter normally attracts what, 8 to 15 years? Rape about 8 on average? Alcohol, no record, immediate guilty plea, all knocks a few years off. for this guy. Not saying it’s appropriate but that’s the reasoning.
rare enough m’slaughter gets the 15 years normally in the range of 7-12. rape can be up to life dependent on the circumstance but normally 8-12 or if its a priest 2-3 years.
the thing is with good behaviour, remission and the credit for time served, the guy could be out in 2-3 years, which is nowhere the sentence handed down
absolutely, flies in the face of equality before the law. then again, the flip side is “came from a disadvantaged background”

Yeah I know both attract up to life. Rarely handed down though. The usual time served is two thirds I think, I’d be surprised if this guy isn’t out in less than 3.
Which has some mitigation. Only in Ireland would the line " this criminal has had every advantage in life your honour, so go easy on him" become a successful part of the courtroom lexicon. It has always vexed me no end. Often shortly followed by " an active member in his local GAA club" truth be told.

maybe its the way its reported but looks like he ran a defence of self defence and the jury bought it
Not disputing that really, its this whole line of i drank 10 pints but i can’t remember shit thereafter that’s grating me, pal.
itd grate with me more on the rape case as it was an active part of his defence, of course i didnt see mention of if he was so inebriated how was he able to drive a car to the location
Didn’t hear the driving part of the story, no fear the cunt was banned from driving?
he was giving the victim a lift home, i think he was already banned

I played hurling with a chap who got a suspended sentence for manslaughter. His nickname had always been Killer. His brother did time for glassing a lad in a row in a pub.
I see the hang em high brigade seem to be holding sway here. Ye should be doing editorials for the Daily Mail.
If coming from a broken home can be viewed as a defence, surely coming from an ‘unbroken’ home should not be viewed as a defence.
What the fuck is the story with Judges & State prosecuting teams in Ireland?
All day long on the Radio i am hearing these stories of,
A : Man gets off a Manslaughter charge for Punching a Taxi driver a few years ago, it was reported by different media outlets that the accused had spent all day drinking roughly 8-9 pints & shots of Jager. The accused could not remember in detail what happened thereafter that night. BUT, he could remember exactly what he had drank! WTF?
B : Same again ref a Rape case where the accused was sentenced this time for 8 years with a few years suspended. Again this fucker claimed he could not remember the assault BUT yet again could say he drank X amount of pints and therefore was too drunk to remember.
@artfoley , please explain this sham to me.
He punched the taxi driver. I am assuming the taxi driver died.
Without knowing the circumstances I would have said that manslaughter would be harsh enough.
This dope!

Waterford is getting a battering, it’s a great city in a special year for the city so let’s hope it survives this latest battle.
its not a defence, it’s a plea in mitigation
