Things that continue to be right…or things that float your 🐐

This is why the Olympics is the greatest sporting event on earth and why I love watching AFL finals series matches and Countdown finals series matches and why I used to love watching the NatWest Trophy semi-finals double header from Chelmsford and Edgbaston on BBC2 on some random Wednesday afternoon in August. And why the 2005 Ashes was one of the most exhilarating sporting events ever.

Their financial dominance hasnt resulted in the champions league being swamped with english teams anyway. The performance of the league is way below what it should be.

The day that AC Milan took Abel Tarbaat on loan from QPR was the day that football died.

Brentford is a much bigger club than AC Milan.

It’s the fact that it is so absolutely critical to the competitors that makes it so compelling. It’s what is lost in moneyball, where competitions are eked out to maximise turnover.

An absolute fucking magician

Tic tac toe. Superb

He was fucking filth. A joy to watch.

I met one of his old teachers a few years back. He told me they invited him in to talk to the class. The school is in a deprived area.

The teacher hoped he’d do the usual shtick “of work hard etc…”

Gardner stands up and tell them. “I did nothing in school and it turned out okay” or words to that effect :joy:

I was staying in North Yorkshire earlier this month and got talking to a couple who were dropping their only child up to start boarding school. She was 12 and would be there for 6 years, next time they would see her was Halloween as they live 4 hours drive away. I presumed they are different sorts, a culture where that stuff is normal and works well, no point someone from my background trying to figure it out. Having listened to that interview I’m less inclined to be understanding of their approach, being shipped off to boarding school seems to have had a terrible impact on his life.

Years ago in South Africa I was on a tour and there was an Israeli woman on it with her daughter who was 15 but seemed a very young 15 year old. The daughter was going to finish school in two years and the mother was shipping her back to Israel to do her military service. I asked couldn’t she do college first and then go. Absolutely not she would go and do her service for her country. I felt very sorry for her.

His auld lad thought he was doing him a favour but the opposite was actually what happened. You can tell he’s still scared from it all these years later.Lauren done a great job teasing it out of him.
