Tis a lot of money for any city to turn down not to mind Waterford which has been so lacking in investment.
Itâs the strings that come attached youâd be wary of. Youâd want it fairly transparent upfront
The âhigh streetsâ are dead anyway. Patrick St in cork is a shambles. Long term I think shopping will move away from the old traditional main streets and those areas will revert to tourism spots with loads of resteraunts etc and maybe some high end shops
I think itâll just turn into another cheap looking hang-out for skateboarding teenagers. They want the state to pump âŹ140m into upgrading transport and infrastructure, the money could be better spent elsewhere
Theyâre definitely dead in the smaller cities that donât have the population density to maintain the traditional high street stores. Penneys are the only one who will survive due to their model.
Iâd like to see a return to streets with more restaurants and bars and less short term lease shitholes and pop-up shops and Iâd like to see Waterford City Council focus funding on this rather pump it into a vanity project across the river
The city is in rag order at the moment. There is already a unit built across the river that is laying empty, bar a library, for 10 years, city square has loads of empty units. Same with Georgeâs court and the broad street centre. Thatâs not even looking at the number of smaller shops / units that are shut.
Anyone do the Greenway from Dunmore? Any good? Are there many beaches along it?
The city has just lost Debenhams so now all it has is a very poor Dunnes, Shawâs and Penneyâs. If the Book Centre closes you could throw your hat at it. Iâd say it has more charity shops per head of population than any other town in Ireland which is never a good sign.
And some of those cash for gold Shops and those places that fixes phones on the cheap.
Threaten to go to the gates if asked to do anything outside the norm
Trafford centre just went bankrupt. Out of town retail parks are hopefully on the way out.
Ground rents there were mental. I was chatting to a lad with a medium-sized unit there was paying 350k a year.
The greenway doesnât go through Dunmore. It starts in Waterford city and finishes in Dungarvan and it doesnât go near the coast until nearly Dungarvan.
Thereâs a smashing costal drive from Dunmore to Tramore and then along the copper coast to Dungarvan.
Some really nice beaches along the way like Creedon Head (which is actually in the estuary before Dunmore), Kilfarrasy, Kilmurrin, Ballydwane.
All those beaches are generally deserted and you will usually have them to yourself bar a few locals walking the dog.
When we were young my father used to bring us to Kilfarrassy because there were no shops or hurdygurdies there.
Dungaravn! my bad ⌠Iâll be starting and finishing that end and will have a baby in tow ⌠so we may not go too far - an hour or so out, have a picnic and come back âŚ
I bring my own kids there for that very reason. In Tramore they have us driven demented looking for chips and visits to the arcade.
In any of the beaches I mentioned theyâre quite happy to make sandcastles and play in the rock pools when thereâs no distractions.
Bonmahon could be a good shout so. Nice beach for walking and a playground beside it for the small ones.
The best part of the Greenway is from Kilmac to Clonea. The best short stretch is Durrow to Clonea and back.
Very dangerous currents there so youâd need to watch the kids like a hawk there. I got pulled upside down there as a child and nearly drowned
Yeah most of the coves along the copper coast are the same. Strong currents, abandoned beaches and poor mobile signal is a bad combination if your going swimming.
Would you get many Lycra types acting the bollix on it?
What are the bestbeaches on the cork side of Dungarvan or close to Dungarvan in general
