Things you noticed while waiting on public transport today…

  1. some times you see a pretty girl and a not pretty girl. Oft-times the not-so-pretty girl is dressed the way you’d prefer the pretty girl to be dressed. It can be frustrating.

  2. when a one syllable word ends in E and you pluralise it or change it by adding an S it gains an extra syllable if the letter before the E was a C, S, Z or G. If it doesn’t end in CE, SE, ZE or GE then it retains the same number of syllables (e.g. rage - rages, prize - prizes, race - races, pace - paces; hide - hides, pole - poles, lie - lies). _CHE (e.g. Roche) and probably _SHE seem like they will be exceptions

  3. X * X = (X-1)(X+1) +1
Looks boring but if you want to know what 13 * 11 is (as I did earlier) just take 12 *12 and subtract 1. It’s useful when you’re counting how many pavement slabs there are in a particular section of a DART platform.

  4. One should really bring one’s earphones when one anticipates a long wait for the DART

Thanks Rainman

Number 4 on your list is a bit strange Rocko. If I want to know what 11*13 is I would multiply those numbers instead of taking the additional arithmetic step. Although I have learnt over the years that those in the accountancy business tend to have woeful mental arithmetic skills.

Think you’ve a plus where there should be a minus there Rocko. Hope the missus likes your comments about the wimmins clothes.

No his equation is grand

Chinese people have a way smaller idea of personal space. They are closer together on a bus than battery hens.

Thats because they are inherently smaller and therefore would have a smaller personal space.

I’m much more wary when travelling on public transport this past month or so since reading about that guy in Canada who was beheaded by another passenger on a bus. Yes, beheaded. I found myself dozing off on the bus down to Wexford recently before it flashed through my mind and now I’m keeping my wits firmly about me while using public transport.

Beheaded Canada bus man ‘named’

A young man beheaded in a savage knife attack on a Canadian cross-country bus has been identified by friends as a “bubbly” 22-year-old man.

Canadian police have not yet formally confirmed the victim’s identity, but friends paid tribute on Facebook and in e-mails to Canadian media.

One told broadcaster CBC that Tim McLean, the presumed victim, was loved by many and called him a “ladies man”.

Police have charged Vince Weiguang Li, 40, with second-degree murder.

Mr Li, of Edmonton, Alberta, appeared in court in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, on Friday.

He said nothing when the judge asked whether he was going to use a lawyer, merely nodding when asked whether he was exercising the right not to speak.

The judge said Mr Li should appear in court on Tuesday after he had had an opportunity to speak to a lawyer.

Well-loved

Newly-established Facebook groups and Tim McLean’s Myspace page have filled with messages of support for the victims’ family after news of the horrific killing.

Eyewitnesses on board the bus, which was travelling through a desolate stretch of Canada’s vast prairies, said the victim was stabbed 50 or 60 times by the man sitting next to him.

The attacker then severed his head with a large knife, reportedly brandishing the head to terrified passengers.

In an e-mail to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, a friend of Tim McLean, Jossie Kehler, told of her sadness.

“He has a lot of friends and they are all very upset he’s gone, and they would like to say they miss him and he will always be in their hearts,” she wrote.

On Facebook, news of the killing led to hundreds of friends and well-wishers joining a tribute group.

The site description read: “RIP Tim McLean, you are loved and you will be missed dearly! That man will pay for what he did! We love you!”

‘No rage’

The attacker was arrested after a lengthy standoff with police late on Wednesday night.

One passenger, Garnet Caton, said many of the 37 passengers saw the attacker “cutting the guy’s head off and pretty much gutting him up”.

The attacker ran at them, Mr Caton said, and they ran out of the bus, holding the door shut to prevent him getting out.

The attack appeared to be unprovoked and it is thought the killer did not know his victim.

The passengers, many of whom were badly shaken by what they witnessed, were taken to a hotel in Brandon, Manitoba, and were given crisis counselling.

What the fuck? How is it only second degree murder?

Any of yez ever fall asleep on a bus only to wake up with a sort of a jump? Always used to happen me on the bus home from college and more often than not I’d hit the person sitting beside me with a trailing elbow. Often happens on planes as well.

The equation is sound.13 times 11 = 143 + 1 =144 same as 12 times 12.Try 10 times 10 = 100. Multiply 9 times 11 = 99 + 1 = 100.Q.E.D.It works for all integers.

Have noticed a few things like that alright rocko, not quite algebraic formulae but silly things all the same. Not quite today either but anyway.

Like standing in Pearse St Station a few weeks ago when the DART just didn’t turn up for ages and there were a crowd of tourists there. What the fook were they thinking? It started at 6 mins and went in and out until about 35 min later the bastard rolled into the station. Cunt.

Was getting a DART from Blackrock there last Thur, and noticed these 3 hotties. So basically followed them onto the train to eavesdrop. All just about to start college. Fuckin ridiculous. Dirty little beaaatches. Wonderful.

Then there was the week just before school started back, these 4 birds, no more than 16 all like Omigodding about some bird that was still a virgin. Classy.

spot the teacher

-99+1=-98, 9x(-11)=-99

Q.E.D. the formula is not applicable to all integers.

Was on a Bus ireann bus (surprisingly enough) down to Wexford a couple of years ago and and sat on my own about 3 rows from the back. A group of 4 birds then came down along the bus and sat across the very back row and they were no more than 14/15 years old. It was a midweek morning bus down during the summer and there wasn’t many on it and they settled down to their conversation and I could hear everything. I soon gathered they were from Gorey and they were speaking away about the weekend before and the lads in their group of friends they’d given blowojobs to. And then they debated about who else they fancied giving blowjobs to the following weekend. I’ve said it before but it wasn’t like that in my day when we were innocently playing headers and volleys on the green.

It works look at the eqn .If x was -9 ,times itself must give a positive answer 81.-

-9-1=-10 and -9+1=-8 ,this gives 80 add 1 = 81.QED.In Your equation you weren’t using the same sign of x. you multiplied a - by a + ,giving a minus answer.X must be either both + or - in the equation.,it isn’t interchangeable.QED.

You said all integers. Which I took to mean all integers.

You are right and I believe I am wrong.

What with the whole world ending CERN experiment and that I don’t think its worth fretting over though.

For all integers ie subbing in x= 2 ,x=-3 etc ,however the sign isn’t interchangeable in the midst of the calculation. you can’t have alternating signs during the calculation ,that isn’t what for all integers means.

I misread the formula and was giddy with excitment at having found a mistake.

For all integers means for all intergers. I’m pretty confortable with that definition.

No problemo,sorry for being pedantic.

For the last 3 days in a row I have seen the same girl on the bus to work. At first I just thought she was a normal girl around 14 years old because she was talking with a girl of that age, she was small and I could only see the back of her and not really taking notice. But then the next day I seen her properly and realised she was an adult but she had an incredibly small torso in comparison to her body.

That got me thinking, could she be classified as a midget or dwarf?(I cant remember the difference between the 2 explained so clearly in an episode of the office) She didnt really fit the description of what either is.

She had a normal sized head, normal sized legs but from her waist to her neck was ridiculous short in comparison to everything else. Also, she was actually pretty hot so she didnt have the dwarf(or midget) looking head that always gives it away that they are vertically challenged. Also she didnt have the slanty or crooked spine look that people with spinal diseases have.

All in all she was perfectly normal except for her ridiculously small torso, which begs the question, midget or not?
