Tipperary GAA 2015

That’s what happens when you allow 32 senior teams in a county. It probably would be ideal to get rid of the divisions or make them less of a factor in the county championship but the club’s have a fierce attachment to the divisions and they aren’t going to vote for that

3 in a row for Eire Og out west. Fantastic achievement for the club. In the football final as well. They’ve some excellent hurlers at the minute. Clonoulty must be seething.

Someone on here explained how it worked one day. I have to say I found it hilariously elaborate.

32 senior teams is at least 12 too many.

The divisions are very top heavy with 4 teams in the West, 4 in the South, 14 in the North and 9 in the Mid.
They are in the process of reducing the number of teams with 2 down and one up (Cappawhite and Boherlahan are gone, meaning the West will only have 3 teams next year) They should just bite the bullet and reduce it to 24 asap.

Wasn’t the senior open to anyone who wanted a go at it for a while?

Ya Moycarkey got up like that, a few others as well I think

That’s a while ago now.
Your own adopted club went Senior 20 years ago by virtue of winning two Mid Intermediate titles in a row. They never won the County nor did Mullinahone when they went up Senior.
They did attempt to increase participation in the West and South, but the teams who came up have been relegated since.

Massive result for Cashel King Cormacs even if Galtee were poor. Probably the first win of note for that bunch of players in 4/5 years after hammering after hammering.

Looking at what’s left in the Intermediate, it’s hard to say any of them are up to going up Senior.

Newport maybe?

Doubtful as Silvermines lorded that grade & the step up for them hasn’t been plain sailing.

Tipp SHC Prelim QF Draw
Eire Og Nenagh v Roscrea;
Thurles Sarsfields v Mullinahone;

Killenaule v Portroe;
Kilruane McDonaghs v JK Brackens

Kildangan v Upperchurch-Drombane
Eire Og Annacarty v Lorrha-Dorrha

Byes for Drom-Inch and Clonoulty/Rossmore

The funny thing is the teams that recieved the byes won neither group nor division and got their bye as a result of finishing 2nd in their group.
Hilarious shit.

You’d wonder if they can’t get lads involved in a county like Tipp, what hope is there in developing counties

Minor boss Liam Cahill isn’t happy with ex-Premier stars.

LIAM CAHILL BELIEVES that a number of former Tipperary players have “failed” the county by refusing to get involved in the coaching of underage teams.
Cahill has revealed that he approached a number of ex-Premier County stars for assistance after taking over as Tipperary minor hurling team manager and was taken aback when his advances were rebuffed.
Former Allstar forward Cahill endured a difficult first season in charge (2014) as Tipp were knocked out of the Munster championship by Clare and finished with 12 players in Ennis.
But the straight-talking Ballingarry native absorbed some salient lessons and this year’s crop won the Munster title before advancing to next Sunday’s Electric Ireland All-Ireland final against Galway at Croke Park.

Cahill said: “The bottom line is that when I was given this job a year and-a-half ago, when I looked for past county players to come on board a lot of them weren’t prepared to grasp the nettle.
“I felt, and we said it when we sat down after our defeat in Ennis and we discussed it as a development committee with the county board, and I genuinely felt that our past players in this county had failed us to an extent, bar the few that would step up at the moment.

“You have Declan Fanning and Paul Curran taking on coaching roles (at senior level).

“But again that’s at a higher spectrum and I feel that the past players have failed us at the lower spectrum, at U14, U15 and U16, that particular area where they’re needed.
“I was very disappointed last year when I approached several players and they either had no interest or it intimidated them or they felt that they weren’t competent enough.
“And these were fellows who had got so much from Tipperary hurling and who weren’t prepared to put their heads on the block and give something back.”

Cahill revealed that preparations for 2015 began three weeks after the Ennis defeat.
Talks began with then county board chairman Sean Nugent, who then liaised with games development officers in the county before a plan was put in place to improve standards.
Cahill added: “We had to see what we could do in the short term to improve the situation and thankfully to date it seems to be working.

“The profile of underage hurling is back up to where it needs to be to get the results required to keep the conveyor belt coming.
“12 months ago or even a little over 12 months ago this particular set-up and this grade had been on a real downer after two very poor performances against Limerick and Clare.

“So it’s great to be back up the ladder and into an All-Ireland final.
“A lot of work and a lot of things had to change to get us to where we are today.
“From our own perspective as a management team and in conjunction with the county board, more focus had to be put on underage hurling in the county as quickly as possible.

“The wagons were circling and we were trying to get this Ash (Advanced School of Hurling) programme up and running as quickly and as progressively as possible.
“We just completed year two of it, which is obviously increasing the focus and awareness of these young men as well as to what’s required to play minor hurling for Tipperary.”

Waffle from Cahill.

I would honestly believe the few lads he asked said no to working with him.
That article is basically saying last year I fucked up, but this year I did great.

I agree with the you about the minor team but it is actually a bit disappointing that no former intercounty players are involved at u14, 15, 16 or 17 level

Let’s be honest about this, most of those teams you mention already have lads working with them & most likely are not keen to give up the roles.
Secondly, a lot of ex players would see little monetary value in the time needed to give it a proper go. And a lot of them probably already give a lot of their time to their own club teams.

I think Cahill is also a little hard on the ex players as plenty are involved already at different grades. Noel Morris, Shane Stapleton & Martin Maher spring to mind over the past few years at different grades.

In short, Cahill is talking a bit of nonsense IMO.
