Tipperary GAA 2020 - The Famine Is Over - Ireland's Premier Dual County

Yeah. A brilliant hurler. Was on the Tipp squad for the league a few times but the winter hurling wouldn’t have suited him and never got a chance in Championship

Yeah remember seeing him a bit underage. Was silky enough

Did Donal not transfer to Kilenaule at some point?

He did. Bit of a header when it came to hurling. Managed Windgap recently I think

Bit of a Header said with tongue firmly in cheek.

He didn’t lick it off the stones.

Kelly was a four year minor. He played in goals in the 1st round as Fergal Horgan (the ref) was suspended

They absolutely fucked that semi final away vs Galway. They were cruising and thought they were in the final and took Philip Maher off who was unreal. Although they had absolutely robbed Clare in the Munster final a few weeks before getting 2 goals in the last few mins. Paul Lelly and Donal Shelly if I remember correctly. Clare had the last laugh winning the AI. They never really got anyone off that minor team if I can recall. Reddan got a few runs put pissed his talent away.

Kilkenny were the team to beat that year supposedly and Clare caught them in the semi final.

Plenty of the side got chances. Gearoid Considine, Reddan, Gordon Malone and Conor Earley were part of the 2002 senior panel which made the a/i final and featured in the championship.
Ger O’Connell played league for both Clare and Limerick, Kenneth Kennedy knocked around the fringes of the senior panel for 4 or 5 years too but none of them would have had what you would have called decent intercounty careers.

Considine might have been the pick of them but he went off to Dubai around 2003 or 2004 for a number of years.

I’d forgot about Considine. He was good. Think he minor the following year as well. Was he Corofin like Gerry Quinn.

As you said none of them really established themselves at senior.

Cratloe. He came back to Ireland around 2011. Think he is their keeper these days. He was classy enough.

Donal Madden was seen as the pick of the forwards on the team but a dose of scarlet fever not too long after set him back

Kilkenny threw away a load of handy chances while dominating. Clare obviously the more efficient. Shefflin took the brunt of the blame that day. Probably deservedly so.

A big chunk of the same players went onto win the U21 competition in 1999.

If they had more hearts like Len’s you couldn’t beat them

No doubt the man in your avatar is testament to that

Mick Lowry and Babs are the Godfathers of modern day hurling.
