He had a poor stint with Wexford over 10 years ago. Fair enough he did well with Carlow and WIT since but thatās a level well below Tipp. If Liam Cahill becomes available then itās obvious what needs to happen there.
As you said, thatās his level. Cahill wonāt happen. Iād take him in the morning. I canāt imagine Willie Maher will ever get a go. Iām not entirely surprised if Bonnar goes into year 2.
Totally agree with your first point, absolutely bang on.
On getting out of Munster, do they have one of the best three squads in the province? No. I suppose with the competitiveness of Munster thereās always a chance they could get through.
They have a good few players with All Ireland medals and another few with underage suceess. Clare havenāt had as much underage sucess in the recent past but have done well this year. So I wouldnāt have them down to be as bad as what they are made out to ve; should be doing better with what they have.
If you were given your choice of squad to manage going into Munster next year, would Tipp be in your top three picks? Not for me.
I would think going in to Munster next year, any of the four other teams could potentially get one of the other two spots after Limerick. A few new faces in the Tipp panel (including a few right good prospects who opted out this year to travel) and theyād be in the mix with the right man over them.
They would be if the management team is right. I think a lot if people really underestimate the importance of management/coaching. If Kiely/Kinnerk were with Tipp and Limerick had Bonnar, who would you fancy?
A good source has indicated that Cahill wants to come back to Tipp
DJ to Tipp?
Lets hope the County Board use tonightās meeting to priorities the scheduling of Club Championship games for next weekend ahead of this managerial nonsense which can be sorted out at any stage.
I think Nenagh are a dark horse for Munster this year. Johnny Kelly the missing ingredient
I donāt. Management is so important and I would put how good a lot of our players are now down to Kinnerk. I just donāt think tipp have as much talent available in their squad as others.
But thats my point. Who knows how far these Tipp players will progress under right set up.
They wonāt do it in a year and many of their players are close to retirement. Of course they have some good players but given the choice Iād have Cork, Waterford or Clare ahead of them.
If Cahill goes to Tipp, I would not have Waterford above them.
It depends who they get. They have a couple of top class forwards and lots of mobile physical middle third players. You need both of those things and tipp donāt have either of them.
I think people overestimate the Waterford squad. We have a lot of good winter hurlers that canāt perform on the hard ground and de Burca and Barron are finished.
Barron is 28 it seems a bit mad to write him off. Look at David Burke. TDB may not make it back to previous levels alright. All Iām saying is thereās more talent there than tipp have currently, in my view.
What about Ozzie? Rising 28 next year is it fair to see his best days are behind him?
So Tipp who beat fancied Cork teams twice in underage All Irelands and have a multitude of All Ireland winners have worse prospects than Cork, who have no All Ireland senior winners in their ranks?
