They won Munster when I was a young lad afair. Early 80s . Haven’t heard much tell of them in years except for Ken Ralph is from there originally
82 / 83? Jack Bergin anyway
Boherlahan will be mobbed Sunday, new shop there in for a bonanza day of business…
Moycarkey v Cross would have really brought a throwback type crowd.
Won Munster the year I was born ![]()
In fairness to Moycarkey, they’ve been a coming team. Won a county minor and u21 with the same crop of players in 2018/2021.
Templetuohy woukd have made much more common sense from a geographical standpoint
The big thing is they’ve 4 u20s on top of that crop, all four are scoring forwards in Joe Egan, Bill Flanagan, Jack Hayes & Costigan.
Templetuohy is a horrendous location. There will be a much bigger crowd and atmosphere in Boherlahan.
How come Max Hackett was on bench? Is he injured?
Coming back from injury afaik. He needs an injury free year.
Moycarkey are really surfing on the back of the ‘Rhys wave’.
Who was the last Tipp All Ireland winner they had who played a significant role?
I drove through Littleton/Horse & Jockey etc the week of the All Ireland Final and the colour around the place was unreal.
John Flanagan who scored a goal in the 1971 final might be their last All Ireland winner?
The auld lad is actually up here in the north east. I’ll ask him.
Confirmed that it’s Flanagan alright. Said he got a vital goal down in Killarney that year too
Culbaire in 58 the previous he says
Moycarkey have a lovely balance to their team. very physical but have some lovely stick men also.
They have been under achieving with the numbers that they have - the biggest parish in Munster land wise I believe?
He got the winning point in that game. Although the most legendary story of the day was the “dry ball” incident, the 21 yard free that Babs Keating goaled from actually happened about midway through the 2nd half.
The teams were level with time up and Flanagan pointed from distance for Tipperary to win 4-16 to 3-18.
Incidentally, two years later, he also scored a very late point to level the Munster Final at 2-18 to 6-6. It looked to be heading for a replay until Richie Bennis won it from a 70 with the last puck of the game.
I have it on good authority that late Bennis 65 was wide.
A member of that Limerick side told me the same before the 2001 Munster Final. He was half winding up a load of Tipp lads though!
