Tom Humphries on the Grand Slam

Uncle Tom:rolleyes:

First I heard about it. I live in Dublin so it might be difficult but it’d be probably worth making the trip for. That said, are you lazy fucks not willing to travel to Dublin?

I would say that my dole would hardly pay for a night out in Dublin:)

It’s fine if you do it right. Sure I haven’t worked in 9 months. We’ll drink cans and then go in to wherever the venue is, ok?

just like being a student

Well he is a student, feakle clown!

closer than Ruan anyway

Is WITJ still hanging around? Somebody open a window please and let this bad smell out.

I know you dont mean that :stuck_out_tongue:

Huh

Come off it Dan

Douglas Gill
Dubarrys
Those stripey bags whose name escapes me

Lots of them around Cork

Anyway Humphs needs to change the record- a mildly amusing effort on his behalf but don’t know what constituency he is writing for now…

Those stripey McWilliams bags are made in Cork which is why they are so common.

A fair whack of them in such places as Kinsale, Crosshaven, Schull, Ballydehob etc. Best avoided really.
Most would be like Lazarus, they wouldn’t look at a rugby match if it was outside the back garden. But i doubt Lazarus is half the tosser they are.
Most of that is utter horseshit. I’m no great lover of plenty of aspects of rugby but it’s a cracking sport and should be judged on its own merits. The narrowmindedness of a GAA supporter suggesting that rugby has limited appeal throughout Europe is foolish beyond belief.`

It’s a particularly Irish and post-colonial obsession to seek justification and praise for our achievements overseas. Well the truth is that rugby isn’t weighlifting and no direct comparison can or should be made. It’s not the most widely played sport in Ireland (much of that is the administrators’ fault) but it is a relatively important part of the Irish sporting culture and 82,000 people at Croke Park confirms that.

I don’t see Munster’s or Ireland’s performances in Europe in anything other than a rugby context. Everyone knows who plays rugby and everyone knows who has been successful at it in recent years. Just as the lack of competitive hurling in Dublin in the last few years doesn’t dull how great Kilkenny hurling has been over that period, likewise the absence of a great Romanian rugby side is no reflection on how good a rugby team Munster currently are.
A hysterical reaction to an article on hysteria. Beautiful.

WUMmery reaches the Irish Times

Madam, Some of your readers may be familiar with a creature often to be found on internet forums, the Wind-Up Merchant (WUM). The WUM takes great pleasure in making deliberately provocative statements with a view to stimulating an angry response. They are unfortunately all too prevalent in cyberspace.

It seems, however, that this odious species has spread its wings and is now appearing in more traditional media outlets. I have noticed, for instance, that one of the occasionally more amusing sports writers of your parish, Mr Tom Humphries, has been replaced by Tom Humphries (WUM), someone given to making snide observations about rugby football, while at the same time extolling the admittedly innumerable virtues of those practising the indigenous sporting pursuits of our island.

Perhaps, whatever steps are necessary could be taken to reinstate the original Mr Humphries in place of Tom Humphries (WUM). I realise, of course, that my D4 address automatically disqualifies me from being taken seriously in this or any other matter, but I suspect Im not the only rugby supporter who feels like this. Yours, etc,

Ha I was just going to make that comment myself until I read it

Hard to argue this in fairness, even if it is some mong from D4

It must be tough on the D4 crew but how the hell could you have any sympathy for them.

Toot on Tom, toot on.
