Tom Humphries thread

He was under no obligation to take the stand.

Has the reference been published, ie. an actual link to the text or a report from a reputable publication containing the content of it?

Hook has a track record, therefore we already have a pretty good idea of what his views on related topics are. What track record has Cusack of blaming victims?

Galwey also knew Halvey for 20 years and didnt only know him through a commercial relationship

How do we know anything?

A character reference might be one way of getting a handle on such.

I’m sure there are all sorts of Cracker type criminal psychologists and psychiatrists who might have an opinion too from having contact with the perpetrator.

We know what crime was committed and whether it was premeditated or not. That should be the guideline for sentencing.

Where have I accused him of blaming victims? Showing c[quote=“Sidney, post:426, topic:13100”]

Tis well you know it hasn’t been published considering the names were unusually witheld

But this isn’t about blaming victims it’s about writing references for convicted child abusers

And which is worse? Slapping Danny Foley on the back and wishing him well or writing a letter in an attempt to get a shorter sentence for a child abusers?

One would appear to blithely ignore the crime committed, the other doesn’t.

I’ll let you work out which is which.

So, we don’t actually know the content of what was written, just the broad topics that were mentioned, and we don’t know the context of such.

But, sure, let’s vilify away anyway without knowing.

What hook said is exactly what any father would say to his daughter or a brother say to his sister. People Are looking to
To get offended all day every day. How anybody can compare this to cusack is a bizarre.

Neither one is better than the other

Did you not get the memo? You have to be violently pro Hook and anti Cusack, or vice versa. Nuance is dead.

Mate, As they are both from Cork the memo I got is terribly confusing, we’ve been advised to deflect by introducing some lad called Danny Foley to the debate

This is really weird. “Victim blaming” is now worse than child abuse. Bizarre.

Do they have character witnesses at sentencing in the US? It’s not just an issue in this jurisdiction. I can recall Mickey Harte providing a character reference for a sex offender after his conviction in Belfast a few years back.

Didn’t they work for the same employer for most of that time? I’d say their relationship was fairly commercialised by that point.

Sid, you’d serve your argument better by abandoning the comparisons with Hook. They’re not the same thing at all in terms of specificity, staking your reputation on the character of somebody or the circumstances.
