Not to mind all the good work Lance has done to fight Cancer.

Hey Iā€™m not defending Walsh or Cusack dunno how you picked up that
I just find it bemusing (not offending, dunno where you got that from either) Lance acting all cuntish with Walsh when all he did was caught the cunt out lying and cheating

Is someone disagreeing with this viewpoint?

Absolutely correct

What would be the Christian thing to do be here, gents. What would our Lord have done? Would he have abandoned the sinner?

it certainly sounds like that you are aligning yourself with Walsh & Cusack ahead of Lance

There is no issue whatsoever David Walsh providing moral and emotional support to his good friend. None. Using his status and reputation to help him get a lesser sentence is a different thing altogether.

There is probably a section if the bible about doing the crime and doing the time

If it sounds like that Iā€™d suggest you get your hearing checked mate

And he has Jimmy Saville as his avatar.

I donā€™t like the idea of character references at all. Has the bang of something introduced to help people from ā€œrespectableā€ backgrounds (which coincidentally includes lawyers and judges) get lighter sentences by getting similar types to speak up for them. Crimes should speak for themselves. Incidentally, Iā€™m not a huge fan of victim impact statements either.

I know you wait on my definitive word on any topical issues mate

Not necessarily disagreeing with the viewpoint that the references are inappropriate, but Iā€™ve seen a few comments and articles saying people shouldnā€™t vilify the pair who provided the character references.

He is either homophobic or homosexual.

Alot of closet gay men apparently use prostitues to try and convince themselves of their sexuality.

There may be a pattern thereā€¦

Couldnā€™t he have written him letters while he was/is in jail?

I agree with Braz that the character reference thing is the problem. If Walsh has been close friends with Humphries for decades he may well want to believe that Humphries briefly lost his mind and isnā€™t some kind of monster. As far as I know he didnā€™t try to explain away the crime itself did he?
