Was it there they used to brew Time and Phoenix Ale ??

Yes but that was a long time ago. Phoenix was brewed in Macardles in Dundalk and then Smithwicks when that closed. Most recently the brewery was used to finish out Budweiser concentrate into beer, but now all that is done at Jameses Gate.

In my time the brewery was known as Cherrys Brewery. Cherrys was a New Ross brewer that Guinness bought. Cherrys (then owned by Guinness) bought the brewery in 1955 from Davis Strangman Limited who had run the brewery since the 1780s.

Wasn’t Hoffman’s lager brewed there is the 80s. If was a GGS product marketed for young people . Never took off much .

Waterford United had the logo on their jersey in the 80s.

It was indeed. Hoffmann and Stein something which was sold up the country was the same beer. Hoffmanns hole was a well known condition in the local hospital in the late 80s until they dialled down the ABV.

Was that the brewery over the river as you came in from the Clonmel road?

Yes

I remember Hoffmans. Horrible tack.

Another lager around that time was Fürstenberg .

Was trying to remember the name of that one.

Hoffmans was truly awful. I could not stomach it.

Phoenix ale should be brought back to the market in the LBBs, it would be a proper hipster drink.
