That was probably Jack’s team at it’s peak. They were a better side than England by then. Played them off the pitch at Wembley but couldn’t grab the winner. If I remember correctly a 0-0 draw at home to Poland also cost them points. England topped the group by a point even though Ireland scored almost twice as many goals as them.

That Irish performance in Wembley was one of the best Irish displays I’ve ever seen. Albeit I was 11 at the time.

But we were ahead in Poland and conceded for a draw which was when we lost control of the group.
