Sure nobody from Killmallock had shoes at the time.
The blueshirts did pal.
That we did
Circa 78 minutes is my recollection.
The real winning and losing of it was when Chris Woods bear hugged the legs of a Polish attacker trying to round him in the box to make it 2-0 and the ref didn’t award the stonewall penalty.
The game was shown on BBC and when Ireland went 3-1 up I switched over to it. I have a recollection of a dog barking loudly in the background - in the stadium in Poland that is - not in my house.
It was a massive disappointment to me when we didn’t qualify and sort of made me want the IRA to do really bad things in England in revenge.
I had absolutely no recollection of that Euro 92 qualifying campaign which would suggest that I had a bit of a life going on at the time.
We left it behind against the Poles in the away match as well. I recall Ireland being 3-1 with roughly fifteen minutes left, but we ended up drawing 3-3.
Probably all half pissed the night before
And they being fed on fish and chips out of Harry Ramsdens
Was that match the origin of George’s “Danger Here” comment?
No . The Igor Protasov goal v Russia in 1988 euros
12 monkeys , pale rider:+1:,and dancing at Lusghnasa delicious
Jack’s squad seem to be on the lash quite bit when on international duty???!
Sure didnt McGrath get on the wrong plane langersed and missed a match.
Jack gave them a lot of rope
I would think that was part of the culture in British and Irish soccer then . Look at man Utd up to 1988 or so
Jack was there until 96 was he? I’d say they boozed hard until then. Less under Mick I’d say, but still more than most
Great show on earlier on TG4 about boxer Sean Mannion. I assume it was a repeat, but very enjoyable. Some of the Irish American blarney was a bit shite though…
England celebrated how big a crowd of piss heads they were after gazza scored against Scotland in 96
Did you not even remember the England game in Wembley even would have thought that was huge?
I remember teachers wheeling in tellys to our class in primary school to watch a few of the games. NI 3 nil win and a denmark (?) draw where cascarino scored a headed equaliser maybe. That England home game was the peak of it though. It was just after italia 90 when boys in green fever was at its height. The whole school of 500 or so boys packed into the sports hall to watch on a ittle shitty portable TV. There were serious ‘limbs’ when the equaliser went in.
Most primary school age kids would hardly name one ireland player these days let alone watch a game.
The dentists chair. That’s right. They were butchered by the press at the time
Wasn’t a bad show there Behind the Menu
