Leap Year (they have a sense of comedy on this channel, but you’ll all get to see the magnificent Rock Of Dunamase).

An old gentleman I know was telling me about the repeat of this he saw on RTÉ recently. We were out and about in the car listening to the radio (Lyric) and someone texts in a request for something related to Black Lives Matter and Evelyn Grant played Kevin Barry by Paul Robeson from his lp Songs of Struggle. This caused my passenger to reminisce about the show. About how George’s elderly aunt used to sing Kevin Barry at family events mar dhea because one of the family had been killed by the British though it seemed only to be a bit of family folklore.

Anyway it transpired that a relative of George’s by marriage Thomas Bryan had been hung by the British in 1921 for taking part in an ambush in Drumcondra. He was one of six hung on the same day and buried in Mountjoy ( the British wouldn’t give the families the bodies). They were reinterred in Glasnevin in 2001. Bryan was a great friend of Kevin Barry and had taken part in the action where Barry was captured. That was why the elderly aunt used to sing it.

I must try to catch it on the player.

I saw it a few years back - Who do you think you are … An enjoyable watch. George was fairly bullish about his Irish roots.

Sure George wrote the Culture Club hit “Do you want to hurt me” about the British Army torturing IRA lads in the 70s.

That’s a great initiative

It’s a pity Limerick folk are so slow to support their own

I’ll tune into the six o’clock show with the two All Ireland winning Morrissey brothers from Ahane on alright.

Good initiative, agreed.

An extra dose of fear mongering on the 9 o’clock news tonight.

Quoting a patient in a nursing home who says they won’t leave their room until a vaccine is found.

Laughable, I’ve seen loads of older people at club games in last few weeks.
