Watching a recording of Tracks and Trails from Friday here, it’s in Limerick
The walkers, one of them is Barry Murphy have pronounced Templeglantine to rhyme with wine
And Ardagh to rhyme with Armagh
Like who allows that through ![]()

Why?
How do you pronounce Ardagh?
I thought it was pronounced Ardagh same as Armagh.
It is
Look teachers are always right…
![]()
No it’s not
Jesus there’s really no need for that sort of sarkiness ![]()
It rhymes with Garda
Ardagh folk are quite precious about it
If it was a word, how would gardagh and garda sound different?
I don’t understand your question?
Some places aren’t spelled as they’re pronounced, and I understand that people all over the country probably think Ardagh is pronounced the obvious way,
But it’s not, and if an RTE show has a five minute segment from that place you’d expect them to have it right,
Not a big deal though, just an observation ![]()
How is Ardagh pronounced then phonetically. If Are Ma is Armagh what’s Ardagh.Ive only ever head it pronounced Are Da
It rhymes with Garda, most people in Limerick would pronounce it correctly, especially those from the area,
I was in college with a fella from Ardagh and it seemed most people around the country pronounced it incorrectly in relation to the chalice, I don’t know why but it mildly annoyed him
I still don’t know what your on about.
Does Garda and Armagh rhyme the way you say them?
Armagh is Ar Maa, Ardagh is Ar Da,
Up Armagh, up your Ma, and up the Ra
Do they not when you say them?
