He seemed to be a corner-back but acting like he was the fulcrum of the team there. Corner-backs in GAA are usually there in a hatchet man mission bar notable exceptions like Seán Flood, Marc O’ Sé, Peadar Mogan and Tom O’ Sullivan. He must’ve had some commute from Clontarf to Mayo a couple of times a week on 80’s/90’s roads.

Modern day managers would lose their minds with that. “Sure we can’t do anything in the field when we don’t have ye all here”.

Because too many are making serious wedge so need to justify their own existence by making sure they control everything .
It’s gas that nearly every team left in the championship has a weak fullback line .nobody has had to individually train a lad to defend in about last 12 years due to blanket defences

He also was one of the first players to wear cycling shorts under his shorts. They were sky blue and sort of thick and shiny. A disgruntled Mayo lad on a previous incarnation of this place used to call him ‘Rubber Hole’.

Mark Walters I remember as an early adopter.

John Motson had a lovely piece of commentary about Graeme Sharp and cycling shorts during his commentary of the 1989 FA Cup final.

“Graeme Sharp, wearing the cycling shorts after his hernia operation a few months ago, just to keep the warmth in there, although I shouldn’t think he’ll get cold today, the temperature has now reached 90 degrees, it’s stifling out there.”

Yes I do remember this piece of commentary as I had got a VHS tape of the Liverpool v Everton 1989 FA Cup final as a birthday present from my Auntie although I couldn’t play it until I visited my cousin’s before Christmas that year as we didn’t have a video recorder/player. This changed when my Auntie bought us a video recorder/player as a Christmas present.

That sort of beautifully silly and absurd English humour by Motty is an example of why we all love the English even though we hate them.

76, he doesn’t look or act it.
Must be stuck for a few bob.

That’s a fascinating story about the 3 babies being left in the phone box in Drogheda. Mad that one of their daughters pieced together that her father could be the 3rd baby when she saw an adoption programme from her home in Australia.

That 15 year old in the Shels Academy is fair short.

Some mighty tv on TG4. An eyetalan lad fluent in Irish.

Back in the 70s they had an Irish language learning program on before the 6 O Clock news. There was a Norwegian fella who had a great grasp of the Gaeilge
