An underemployed actor then?
Galways full of them alright. Can’t get work even in the year of culture.
You could ask when you make a reservation. I usually do. You can do this over the telephone.
You’re welcome.
Sure they’ll tell @TheUlteriorMotive that Keith is on whether he is or not and he’ll be none the wiser.
Thanks all. You were all very helpful. Beyond my expectations actually.
I like Italians for a group so I have booked Il Vicolo.
I’ll try and get to O’gradys for chowder and porter too.
I’ll post on the bars thread in due course for recommendations for afternoon drinking and for evening drinking. We’ll be in a male only group in the afternoon and a mixed group in the evening.
Phew. I’m off the hook.

I think lads are over thinking this.
There’s a lot of restaurants about, which have ostensibly the same menu, in which if there isn’t someone keeping an eye on things, the standard slips alarmingly.
I have never had a bad meal there when Keith is in the kitchen, granted I’ve not been for a while.
Fao of @TheUlteriorMotive, o gradys on the pier you can rock up wearing anything. The chowder and a pint of excellent Guinness come in at under a tenner. Best value in galway. If you time it for early afternoon when it’s quiet it’d be lovely.
Just ring ahead and check they’re open.
See if you can get a table by the window, lovely sea and harbour views.
The entire menu is excellent, but it might be a bit ott for lunch to eat off the mains board.
Isn’t Barna a spin out the road? I assume the boys are on foot if looking for afternoon pints.
What’s the name of the head chef in the Greggs bakery in Rochdale?
Bez

Would you let the boys have the use of your chaffeur for the day?
Close, Alison.
No
It’s about three miles. I’m sure a cab wouldn’t break them.
Also, the views are lovely. Seems a shame to go to the West Coast, and not take advantage.
I’d bring the togs, dip into Blackrock, walk the prom for coffee, then spin out to o gradys for hot chowder and cold Guinness. Could even walk it off in spiddal after if you had a designated driver, though the road out is as far from picturesque as you’ll get, and you want to be headed back to town before four as the traffic gets brutal on the barna road.
PS, for a relatively accessible walk, I’d strongly recommend the derrera mtb trail just past oughterard. It’s about a 16k loop I’ve been told. About a three hour easy walk but bring boots as it’s wet in places (most places)
Mackenzies Hanover Quay. Got a horrific review in the Sunday Times at the weekend so I said I’d see for myself. It’s a Press Up joint which will grind some gears. I thought it was fine. I had an open chicken sandwich and a glass of wine. It was fine. It’s not haute cuisine. Service was up to snuff and the decor was very good.
Is that in the new hotel?
Doolally is another new Press Up group place that got bad press reviews. Indian food. I’ve been a couple of times now and enjoyed it.

Touch of the one armed waiter there.
Christ. “but not in Gallaghers gastro pub”
Heard from 2 different people that the decor is nice, smoking area would be class during the summer but that the food is very meh.

I don’t know a single person who has eaten there, myself included, that hasn’t said the food is top notch.
