The 2014 drawn final was a super game of hurling.

1990 was also a cracker as was 2009.

There have been an awful lot of mediocre finals over the last 40 years though. 79, 96, 04, 08 were particular lowlights.

Most of the Kk wins from 2000 to 2008 were easy wins and the three cork v kk finals were average enough games at best .

I’ve never seen a really good Cork v Kilkenny final. 03 was about the pick of them but was very low scoring, if I recall. Something like 1-14 to 1-11?

I thought 2006 final was ok, proper hard battle and engrossing without being top quality or anything.

Kilkenny invented anti hurling that day, they dominated though and should have been out of sight.

To be fair that was a class Cork side, they had perfected the tippy tappy stuff and standing off them would have resulted in certain defeat. Kilkenny brought the fire and brimstone that day.

There was only three or four points in that match for a finish, wasn’t it?

There was three points in it when Ben had a decent chance to level it at the death, would have been a huge injustice to be fair. No problem with KK tactics but it wasn’t pretty.
