The second half of this was as good as it gets for me, the tension was unbelievable.

The inspirational Ricey score at the 2 min mark really got Tyrone going on a purple patch when Armagh were taking charge of the game, then the finish from Stevie Mc for the Armagh goal was sublime. Kernan taking McGeeney off is one of those things I’d say he will regret for life.

Spillane on half a leg destroyed Tyrone in 1986, I remember it clear as day

he has good help from Mikey Sheehy who was operating on half a leg as well. The bomber had 2 legs though but needed them to hold him up as he was gone a bit pudgy

Putting together any sort of a list that requires comparisons across eras is idiotic. Would Joe Canning even be able to solo the ball with a stick the same size and a sliothar like a sod of turf as in Mick Mackey’s era.
Would Mick Mackey be a useless bastard in the modern era where an ability to solo the ball is something you’d expect of an u14.
You can’t even compare lads from the 90s to the current crop. Lads in the nineties could barely puck the ball. But again heavier sliothars, smaller hurleys, very low levels of fitness and the ever present threat of getting your hand smashed or your head split open

How would Spillane have coped with a blanket defence. Would Maurice Fitz have been able to cover the ground required in the modern game. Paudi O’Se thought he was already unsuited to the different game in the later stages of Fitz’s career nevermind now.

Top 3’s are not satisfying. It’s a number 1 thing and that’s it. Pat Spillane was the greatest of all time, without any hesitation.

After that there are lists and lists of great players all at the same level but none of them were ever at Pats level.

Martin O’Connell being on that team of the millennium struck me as weird. I wouldn’t have had him in the top 5 players on Boylan’s Meath team. Naturally I agree that lads choosing players they never saw play themselves is idiotic.
