Top 40 Irish Songs of All Time

Look, i’m just saying it, you haven’t represented Leinster in the best light here. Munster can hold it’s head up proud so far… Im fearing the Ulster and Connies though

I can’t believe you never brought this

Sure half the counties have nothing to sing about. What would a lad write about Kilkenny? A combo of Castle Protestants and powder pissing cunts. It hardly makes for great material?

A lad looking to sing a song about Longford would probably have to sing about Center Parcs or something. I can think of more songs about Wexford than about 4-5 other Leinster counties combined

Luke’s version of Kelly is top notch

Sure we’ve too many songs in Wexford we’d nearly embarrass the rest of the province apart from Dublin. Here’s another for you

there’s a few wexford songs lad…

Sure you’re only validating my point now! That Corner Boy version is sheer class. Almost haunting.

I’m crying here

I’m deep in a YouTube hole now. Can’t believe I never heard this version before

We’ll finish with this one - typically a stubborn song who doesn’t back down in arguments

We learned the ‘Good men and true’ version of the croppy boy and for me that’s a far superior song, my poor old grandmother often made me sing it as a small boy, a beautiful song, I prefer it to Boolavogue or the boys of Wexford, both of which are also powerful, ‘fought with heart and hand’ is a rousing lyric

Good man. There’s a load of versions that don’t, correctly, reference Duncannon.

For me this is more a Duncannon song that a Wexford song, nainly because it rareky got an airing in relation to the county.

While Boolavogue is mainly played itvwas akways fair downbeat at a session back in the day. Kelly from Killane and The Boys of Wexford were better to get everyone going.

Thats brilliant. Cyril Farrell with the joy busting out of him and the self satisfied head on Eamon Casey in the background.
