Just looked at it there, think Cav was running out of road. Don’t think he would have won. Good to see a French sprinter win for a change. Just heard Cav on 5live there, not happy about the elbow from Sagan who has just been disqualified from the stage and docked 30 seconds.
Spot on. An absolute disgrace that Sagan is being punished for this. Cavendish has done far worse in sprint finishes in the Tour and got away with it.

Yeah apparently they re-examined the video and sent him home. I don’t condone what he did, none of the sprinters are angels but I can’t help thinking that this is about the TV image.

Cavendish has done worse and been exonerated. I hope Peter appeals this disgraceful decision.

Greg said that he has seen worse, that the decision was harsh and that Cav has caused a few himself.
Looking at the first highlights show there now. They don’t know if Sagan has been sent home.

I don’t like can overmuch, though he’s growing on me, and I’d be a fan of sagan, though I’m more suspicious of him by the year.
That was an overly aggressive piece of riding, which resulted in Cavendish being pushed into a barrier at 40 mph, likely finishing his tour.
Sagan is one of the finest sprinters in the world. It wasn’t a club chipper. Sagan knew exactly what he was doing. A dq was harsh, but fair enough. Couldn’t argue with it.
The fact he went immediately onto Cavendish team bus after the sprint also suggests he knew he was in the wrong.
The sprints have already been modified this year to make them safer, so the riders, and everyone else must be aware it has become an issue. Things cav may or may not have done in the past are irrelevant.
I suspect sagan will be reinstalled today.
It needs a heavy enough hand though, as sooner or later someone will be killed.
If it was a horse race, the stewards would have dq’d sagan, and banned the rider. No doubt.
