Trade Wars

id say the Foynes Inn was aswash with rumours last night as they produce 30% of the Bauxite manufactured in the EU i believe - now i dont know how much of that they export to the US as a raw material of if it is exported there as Al but either way yesterday’s tariff could have an impact there

as an aside yttrium oxide is something that semi conductor companies use as an electrical insultor as it has a very low conductivity and the world is currently experiencing a shortage , they only place it is mined is in , china, bad news for semi conductor heavies ilke me

All the contractors in there were put on notice a month or so ago. Load of them let lads go already. They’ve contractors doing as much as they can the last few years so even losing those jobs would be a blow.

Some lads robbed enough blocks out of it to build their own houses. My brother works there since it opened in ‘81.

I love the legend that the management of the project used to pay the Thatch pub in Robertstown a small fortune to stay shut till 5 pm .

The pubs within 20 miles made a fortune those years . West Limerick was like Klondike .

Every local house was jammed to the rafters with lodgers.

Hey everybody, quick, look over there

China exports almost $500 billion to the US vs just over $100 billion going the other way. There is only one way this ends.

With China stepping into the breach the US has left behind and finally surpassing it as a the Worlds number one super power?

China will capitulate. The alternative is mass starvation and revolution. The commies are not so stupid to risk that. Capitulation by October in time for the US midterm elections.

Finally?

It’s inevitable

Time will tell but I think you are seriously underestimating the Chinese here mate. Their centralised economy can take a lot of hits and they can and are switching to other countries for food imports. Not as easy to find markets for exports but since the US are engaged in trade wars all over the shop it’ll be easier for China to get a leg in.
US will suffer massively as well in the meantime, everything will get more expensive.

But you said finally- they’re still relative newcomers as an economic super power. They will also require greater liberalization before they can truly take the place of the US.

If you are going to be pedantic at least be right, finally has more than one meaning, in this context it means once and for all. i.e. will this post finally get you to fuck off.

No it’s actually pretty important. China will clearly eventually have a larger GDP, but they still won’t be the economic super power the US are. The US will still have elements like Finance that China just will not have. The US will still have the military and geopolitical advantages.

Your post suggested China are on the verge of overtaking them, they are still a mile off pal.
