Transfer Window - Summer 2008

Huddlestone?

Is he any good?

What about O’Hara? Any chance of him playing for Ireland?

Zakora?is he still there…

Forgot about Zokora - thought he’d be a cracking signing but he doesn’t seem to have lived up to my expectations.

Farmer, didn’t even think of O’Hara - no chance of him playing for Ireland though. Huddlestone I just presume is shite.

O Hara will never play for Ireland now, he’s chalked up by England and never saw himself as Irish anyway due to lack of movement on our part at an earlier age.

D’you know that Spurs lost on average of a stone and half or something when Ramos took over? I’d say Huddlestone accounted for most of that…

huddlestone wudn’t be shit just comes across a bit lethargic…still very young…good passer and absolute rocket of a shot…saunters around the pitch a bit though…

Spanish media are saying that Van der Vaart is joining Real Madrid for €10m but Hamburg have denied it and say they want €15m.

He can leave for next to nothing at the end of the season so Hamburg might be tempted to sell but Ajax will get a cut and he’s been in such good form that they may well hang on unless they get a good chunk more.

Can’t believe Liverpool aren’t interested - or anyone else for that matter, but imagine getting Barry for twice what you could have VdV for.

Barry is English though. Our boys won the World Cup in 1966 I’ll have you know…

This from the BBC on Barry’s on off transfer to Liverpool:

Villa’s ire will have been increased by the fact that Liverpool splashed out 19m for Tottenham striker Robbie Keane - with the fee possibly reaching 20.3m with add-ons - yet have been unwilling to match an 18m valuation for Barry.

Is that Villa’s actual opinion or just the BBC engaging in a bit of paddywhacking and bigging up the English boy?

Back in the good ol days you could buy an Irishman for a bag of potatoes.

I mean what has Liverpool buying Keane got to do with their deal for Barry? Ok Villa may well be pissed off that Liverpool say that they can’t meet their valuation and yet splash out for Keane but the BBC don’t know that and it definitely doesn’t warrant reporting

I’d imagine Keanes wages may be cheaper than Villas plus Keane is proven in the Premier League.

However I agree the correlation to the Barry story is silly. Also Barry should have asked for a fucking transfer if he really wanted to move, like Robbie did.

I think were getting our Villas mixed up here

I’d no idea what happened there until Fran cleared it up for me. Bizarre interpretation from MBB.

Haha, yea, I was way fucking off there. Had just been reading an old gossip bit saying Rafa was in for Villa etc, went off on a tangent, forgive me…

I had a chuckle reading The Fiver yesterday evening. It said Spurs losing Robbie Keane could be the difference in them having a superb season and finishing 5th and having a catastrophic season and ending up 6th.

I’m mad at the Fiver since they slagged Mascherano a week or two ago.

I liked this piece from yesterdays fiver

QUOTE OF THE DAY

“Younes Kaboul has decided not to sign for us and we wish him well. I
think it might have helped if I had taken him to the casino until
four in the morning. What do I mean? You’re intelligent, work it out”

  • Sunderland boss Roy Keane, not to the Fiver, obviously.

I think Harry Redknapp may have taken him to the casino until four in the morning.

A tremendous defender in his day…

Former France defender Lilian Thuram has brought his illustrious playing career to an end after being diagnosed with a heart condition.

The 36-year-old was set to sign for Paris St Germain from Barcelona.

But the move fell through after doctors diagnosed a heart problem, and Thuram - whose brother died of a cardiac condition - has decided to retire.

“It is difficult for me to continue. I would have liked to sign with PSG (but) I prefer not to take risks,” he said.

“It’s sad to end a career like this.”

Thuram made 142 appearances for his country, winning the World Cup with them in 1998 and the European Championship in 2000.

606: DEBATE
How good was Thuram?
He retired from international football after France’s disappointing Euro 2008 campaign, and had hoped to finish his career in France.

Thuram started off at Monaco in 1990 before moving to Italy in 1996 to play for Parma and Juventus.

He joined Spanish outfit Barcelona in 2006 but struggled to hold down a regular place at the Nou Camp.

“I would have liked to have been the Paolo Maldini of Paris Saint Germain but sadly it will not be possible,” added Thuram.

Maldini, 40, is the captain of AC Milan and has delayed his retirement for one more season.
