Transfer Window - Summer 2008
Aside from Robbie Keane’s 25m transfer to Liverpool, there’s been a few other deals today:

 • Sulley Muntari from Portsmouth to Inter for 14m.

 • Diego Placente from San Lorenzo to Bordeaux for an undisclosed fee - he’s 31 now but he could have done a job at left back for Celtic.

 • Porto have signed 22-year old Brazilian striker ‘Hulk’ for 5.5m! He comes from Uruguayan side CA Rentistas even though he’s been on loan in Japan for the last 3 years.
Liked Muntari at Udinese but wouldn’t have thought he was in the top drawer of players judging by what I saw of him at Portsmouth - which was admittedly not all that much.

El Hadji Diouf to Sunderland…mmmmm

That gobshite Graham Hunter was on Newstalk this morning:

“Knowing Fernando Torres as well as I do, I know he prefers to get the ball from midfielders and not from another striker so I’m not sure he’ll be too happy about Keane. He’ll be thinking to himself: I wonder which Robbie Keane will show up.”

Utter fool. You don’t know Fernando Torres at all you fucking charlatan. And your point is shit too.

I see where Man City are meant to be willing to pay Chelsea 5m for Ben Haim…

Not that is something that is wrong…

I was pretty sure I heard Fulham getting someone for a ridiculous fee on the radio this morning but only caught the very end of it so wasn’t sure who was involved or what the fee was - anyone shed any light or was I imagining things?

Not half as bad as the wages he’s looking for…rumoured to be in excess of 50k

Fulham are all set to buy AJ I believe for crazy money, let me see if I can find something on it…

here you go

Johnson on verge of Fulham move

Johnson has scored 22 goals in two seasons with Everton
Everton striker Andrew Johnson is having a medical at Fulham as he closes in on a move to Craven Cottage.

BBC Sport understands 27-year-old Johnson will break the Fulham transfer record by moving for a fee that could eventually rise to 13m.

Johnson pulled out of a friendly when he heard of Fulham’s interest and has not gone on Everton’s tour to the US.

The money would enable Everton boss David Moyes to up his bid for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Joao Moutinho, 21.

Moyes had an 11.8m offer rejected by the Portuguese club on Sunday, with Sporting not keen on selling their man for less than 20m.

606: DEBATE
Do you think Johnson would be a good signing for Fulham?
As for Johnson, the former Birmingham and Crystal Palace hitman is thought to be keen on a move back to London for family reasons.

He joined Everton from Palace for 8.6m in May 2006 and has scored 22 goals in 74 appearances for the Goodison Park outfit.

Everton have yet to make a signing this summer and Moyes has conceded he may need as many as five or six new players.

Moyes has been linked with Moutinho, plus Tottenham striker Darren Bent and Real Zaragoza’s Argentine forward Diego Milito.

In sharp contract to Everton, Fulham have gone on a spending spree since securing their Premier League status at the end of last season.

They have already swooped to sign Mark Schwarzer, Andranik Teymourian, Zoltan Gera, David Stockdale, Toni Kallio, Bobby Zamora and John Pantsil and are poised to snap up Swedish defender Fredrik Stoor too.

13 fucking mill, the transfer season has begun folks…

Thanks MBB - can’t believe Johnson still commands that sort of fee - looked decent for a couple of matches then reverted to mediocrity again.

What srikers would that leave Everton with so? Milito would be a good signing, Bent less so - presuming he’d cost at least 60% of what Spurs paid for him. Moutinho is a nice player and a midfield trio of Arteta, Moutinho and Cahill would be the best outside the top 4 IMO.

I can see Keane rolling the ball across the 6 yard line for Torres to tap in against Man United, only for Torres to stoop, pick up the ball and say, “no, no, no, I’d rather receive that from Stevie.”

What rubbish journalism.

Tempted to get a Keane 7 jersey now. Rumour had it that Rafa wasn’t going to allow there be a 7 this season.

Rafa’s interview today basically outlined his plans for Keane.

He will either play up top with Torres in a 4-4-2 or wide on the right in a 4-2-3-1.

Well that’s what I took from it anyway…

Yeah, was just about to post on it. I took the same.

Why wouldnt Rafa allow a no 7 this season? By the way, Pool should hope he does better in it that its previous owner…

Spurs have agreed a fee for Bentley.

Anyone want to answer the following question:

What’s Bentley done to warrant the type of fee that Blackburn are said to be getting for him?

What’s Bentley done to warrant the type of fee that Blackburn are said to be getting for him?

He was born in England. That seems to be the way of these things.

He’s got a pretty sharp haircut and fancy boots, thats gotta be worth a few extra million in English society these day?

I see spurs are in for Arshavin…would him and Modric not a very similar type of player?

Modric is more of a central midfielder (Fabregas) while Arshavin plays off the front man…

Correct. Still think they’ll end up being quite lightweight in midfield though as Spurs always are. Modric isn’t a wuss or anything but he is a silky type midfielder and if you’re playing Jenas or someone beside him then they’ll get found out. Am I missing a midfield enforcer type from the Spurs squad - did they replace Davids with someone similar?
