Best of luck to both Berbatov and Manchester United, it’s just a shame more clubs can’t behave as impeccably as Manchester United did throughout the process.
Morals died in football a long time ago, especially across the water. Morality choked on a bit fat wedge from Sky in the 90’s.
Anyhoo, we’ve got Robinho, and Chelsea hve this. I like that we put the shits up Utd for alittle while yesterday and that we managed to wipe Chelseas eye. Good thing we’d bought SWP back already, I’d say relations between us are now gone to shit.
Roman may have Kenyon walking on some plastic shortly…
Bandage, do you not know by now that ManU dont do this? Its only the big bad clubs like Real Madrid and Liverpool who tap up players, Man Utd dont condone this kind of behaviour and dont do it. Even though ManU had been talking to Berbatov without the clubs consent, and they publicly courted him all summer long, and got him at the airport when he was supposed to be meeting Man City, and Spurs were threatening to complain about them, they didnt tap him up, Utd just dont do that.
The worst thing about it is that Taggart (Ha) is going to get away with it. I don’t know if there was a news conference but some journalist should ask him if he thinks it’s a little hypocritical the way that he tapped Berbatov up and reported Real to FIFA for doing much, much less with Ronaldo. But no - UK journalists are a shower of yes men and don’t dare piss Sir Alex off. What a piece of scum all of them are…
That gobshite Graeme Hunter on the radio this morning. Reckons Man City takeover is a good thing and “healthy” for the competition because it provides a bit of balance to Chelsea’s spending power.
Utter prick. He does though have some sympathy for clubs like Spurs and Aston Villa that might feel the pinch but overall it’s a good thing for “people who are interested in the transfer market” - i.e. it’s exciting.
As wrong as the comments about Man City’s takeover are - and it’s a terrible development for the game - the notion that Spurs and Aston Villa and the likes are somehow in the poor place is horribly misguided.
Despite being pissed off I have some sympathy for Celtic not spending in that environment. There’s just no possible way of competing with transfers like those that went on yesterday in the EPL.
By the way haven’t managed to read all this thread yet but I see O’Flynn went to Barnet from Cork yesterday - always highly rated but very injury prone it seems. Shame to get no fee for him though.
I couldn’t agree with you more! What a twat. Covering up his I-phone anytime the camera showed it; all the players texting him to give out or summit. Fool
What about this lad that Everton spent 15m on, Fellaini?
Anybody know anything about him?

I watched an hour of the second leg of Liverpool/Standard Liege and that’s the first I ever heard of him. Stg15m is insane money for someone so unproven.
Same as me. Saw him and thought he was impressive but no way is he worth that sort of money. Ridiculous fee.
the term i would use to describe him and his 15 million pound fee would be panic buy…
I believe I said earlier in this thread that Everton looked like they were holding on and on to splurge on a big buy. I get the impression that big buy wouldnt turn up so Moyes threw the load over this SL guy. Seems odd to me.
I think Moyes is a good manager but his transfer dealings have been very suspect in the past. The Rooney money was burning in his pocket so he settled on Beattie for a crazy fee. Then got some more cash together and blew it on Andy Johnson and he’s after doing the same this summer.
Ya Moyes has panicked…someone was bound to.
15M on an unknown, unproven player…its more money than Arsene Wenger has ever spent on a player (13M)
Feilini…15M
Robinho…32.5M
Ronaldo…100M Plus ?
Reyes cost more than that - no?
Wenger is the other extreme - afraid to splash the cash…

Reyes was said to go that high if Arsenal won Premiership, European Cups, etc. Never happened so deal never reached the proposed 18 mill I believe.
I think yesterday was the day when the EPL definitively became the craziest league ever. Did anyone ever think they’d see the day when a Real Madrid player would see moving to Manchester City as an upward step in terms of career progression?! Now, I’m not comparing it to a situation like Gravesen coming from there to Celtic as he was surplus to requirements at Madrid. But they wanted to keep Robinho, yet he decided his future lay at Manchester City.
Then there was other deals like George McCartney commanding Stg6m! And the likes of Everton probably watching Andy Burton on SSN then shitting themselves when they saw everyone else buying players for mental fees so they splash out Stg15m on some Belgian kid at about 11.55pm. Truly nuts!
It really does exist in its own bubble now. The fees and wages are astronomical. Rooney hasn’t really kicked on and doesn’t score enough goals. Tevez is playing well but ManU could do with more depth upfront. What happens? Stg30.75m for Berbatov. Nice to have those funds in your kitty I suppose.

Celtic are are far nearer the size of Real than Madrid than Manchester City so even if Gravesen wasn’t surplus to requirements the comparison wouldn’t be valid. Agree on the rest of your point. Crazy money in the EPL. Just hope a few of the clubs suffer financially soon otherwise it will be impossible for clubs outside of it to compete.

In what way?
Surely any player given the choice would play in the EPL rather than the SPL?
think your being very unfair on moyes there rock. arteta was a top quality signing for f*ck all. he even had him on loan for the first season. anyone could seen even at the huns that he had potential. pienaar is a decent player aswell. cahill has gone great for everton and didnt cost much from milwall. lescott and jagielka were championship players too that he has improved. beattie was a bad signing but sheff utd were stupid enuf to give a lot of that money back. johnson did ok for everton for a good while and somehow fulham decided to give everton 12m for him. so he made money there. im struggling to think of any serious blunders he made in the transfer market. oh wait there is. does anyone know if andy van der meyde is stop populating the AA clinics of liverpool?
I don’t dispute that he’s had successes KIB, it’s just that when he’s had money to spend it usually burns a hole in his pocket and he seems to panic buy in the end.
Arteta was a good signing, and the loan spell was certainly a help in that regard. Cahill was obvious - don’t know why others weren’t interested. Lescott and Jagielka were talked about for ages, again he had the guts to buy and they’ve done alright for him but they’re not inspirational.
I think Yakubu, Van Der Meyde, Howard, Beattie, Johnson were all either overpriced or simply not talented enough. They all came at the end of quite public campaigns to recruit a talented striker/winger (other than Howard) and I think the fact that he made his intentions too clear meant he ended up paying over the odds.
