TTK's Rugby Union bets 2013/2014

himself and JBM should have followed Kev, at least their sitting room windows would still be intact anyway

FAO of anyone wanting to back Saracens outright for the Heineken Cup. I was passing through Glasnevin earlier and popped into Terry Rogers. They are going 9/1 about it, stand out price now. Get in tomorrow if there’s a branch near you and you fancy it.

Welcome back mate

Will follow your tips this year for sure

If anyone on here is pissing you off ,let me know and Ill smash them
Bump!

Well @caoimhaoin ?

I’ve trebled the handicaps and doubled the 2 non handicaps. Cheers so far TTK.

What two non hcap is there Mac?

Northampton and Cardiff. Seriously thinking of Ospreys as well. Leinster team is shocking bad.

I put up Ospreys and Castres on my thread. Ospreys decent price too.

Have backed Noton for pool but struggle to see them winning in France tomorrow

Well @caoimhaoin ?
Well what? I would have thought close to the same, I was going to bet bet but the spread was at 6, ain’t I lucky I didn’t. I question piling money on them winning the group. He indicated they would piss it. They have at least 2 extremely tough away games in Treviso an Leicester. Montpellier may also be a cunt depending in tomorrow result. If they don’t beat Treviso they’ll throw the towel in. I actually backed Treviso +5 for what it’s worth.

Backed Ospreys 1-12. Treviso at +5

Kev there’s an ‘average punters punts’ thread for your shit talk. Neither I nor anyone else here cares what rugby bets you’re doing so kindly refrain from telling us.

Dan, why are you such a big Castres fan? I could definitely see the angle last year but they’re a shadow of that side at the moment, struggling domestically and Northampton have gone from over-rated to under-rated in the space of 18 months.

Best of luck with those wagers Mac, hopefully they’ll all come in, interesting first night, thankfully Saracens scraped over the line, scoring two early tries was the worst thing to happen them and they got out of jail. Ulster were by far the better side against Leicester and had a legitimate interception try ruled out, Poitre screwed them over on a number of occasions but they still won by 6. Huge result.

Not that in massive Castres fan by any means but def think youv overblown their poor start domestically. Won all home games and won none away. Similar to lot of teams. They won’t be million miles away. Not many half decent French ides ever lose at home in HEC. And so it proved. Castres will do fck all in the comp mind
So many standout bets this weekend I actually don’t know where to start! Was going to put up Saracens (-11) at Connacht also but the line has changed to -13 going -14. Munster -7 is another I gave strong consideration and may come back here to play when teams are announced. I’ll also be back tomorrow to hopefully take advantage of a Challenge Cup line. Anyway I digress,

Bet 19

Ulster (-4) v Leciester. 3 points 10/11 Boyles.

Get on this one, no explanation needed really, You all know what I make of Ulster, Leicester are not as good as last season, Ravenhill, Ulster by 6+.

Bet 20 & 21

Castres v Northampton (+3). 4 points 10/11. Northampton to beat Castres. 3 points 7/5 Boyles

Can’t understand how Northampton aren’t favourites for this one. A couple of seasons ago the bookies rated Northampton as the hottest property in English rugby, they’ve arguably improved their side since then but find themselves under-rated here. I’m of the opinion, that this being the last year of the Heineken Cup that the French sides won’t really give a toss. Castres are struggling domestically, they are defending top14 champions but have really struggled this season and they will care much more about their domestic situation than this. Throw into the mix that Leinster are in this group and Castres realise this is not a priority for them. They’re also coming in here off a 34-0 hammering from Brive last weekend. Northampton are a solid side, Myler at 10 is the only real worry but hopefully he shows up. Ulster won here last year, Northampton can do so this weekend.

Bet 22 & 23

Exeter v Cardiff (+8) 3 points 10/11 numerous. Cardiff to beat Exeter 1 point 3/1 Boyles

Here we have a run of the mill English side in Exeter against a quickly improving Cardiff side, I can’t see there being more than a score in this game either way and the handicap and away win are priced wrong. Leigh Halfpenny is worth his weight in gold at the minute and his accuracy off the tee is key here as it will be closely contested. Alex Cuthbert is back in the fold scoring tries last weekend and they have a strong pack. Sandy Park is no fortress and Exeter may well have been flattered by their 17 point victory over Gloucester last weekend. Expect them to come back to reality here and it would not be a shock if Cardiff nick it.
And so the curtain comes down on a cracking first weekend of rugby. Not a good one for me and my loyal punters though! Ulster were value for far more than the 6 point winning margin on Friday. Saracens got out of jail but should kick on. Munster will still win their group, but a surprising opening defeat. Any team that beats Leinster will go close. Toulon, Toulouse and Clermont look very strong and are as formidable as ever. Northampton should have beaten Castres, Harlequins are a side going backwards at a rate of knots, Cardiff were pathetic and deserved a 50 point beating. That sums most of it up!

Total Bets 23
Total Staked 74
Total Returns 85.02
Total Profit 11.02
Strike Rate 56.5%

@The Tipping King - your opinion on Montpelier after this weekend? I’ve had a sneaky few quid on them OR at 40’s and followed your on Saracens too. Are Montpelier likely to give me a run for my money?

We were discussing next weeks handicaps after tonight’s final game of round 1. A lot still depends on injuries etc but here were my early thoughts on the lines (albeit somewhat biased! :))

Saracens (-5) v Toulouse
Leicester (-17) v Treviso
Leinster (-11) v Castres
Cardiff (+15) v Toulon
Zebre (scr) v Connacht
Scarlets (+4) v Metro
Montpellier (+4) v Ulster
Munster (-10) v Gloucester
Northampton (-6) v Ospreys
Glasgow (-2) v Exeter
Clermont (-8) v Harlequins
Perpignan (-4) v Edinburgh

I don’t think they’ll get out of the group Mac. They did have a solid first round win in Italy but I think they’ll lose both games away at Leicester and Ulster and probably drop points in one of those home games. Also they sit top of the top 14 and that will be priority once they drop points in the H Cup. 40s is a good price though probably a 20/1 chance.
