TV Rights, best avoided

I was talking to a lad lately who got EIR broadband to get free EIR sports on sky package. It was the only reason he went with EIR. Then they changed it and he wasn’t getting it for free anymore. Even though the original contract was still ongoing.
Is that correct, I might have EIR and virgin mixed up?

Yes. And I think you should get VM Sports on that app too.

You still get eir sports pack but the BT channels are no longer in the package

510k for Ireland vs Japan in the world cup

That’s impressive for a minority sport.

Does that include the eir sports figures?

And ITV.

500k be poor would it?

don’t be so defensive mate

big game nerves

in and around a hurling all Ireland

big football games would be well over 1 million

Defensive? All I did was query the source of the numbers. You obviously dont know. Sure thats all you had to say.

@Tim_Riggins will be on with the substance behind the headline soon

That’s around Munster Final territory I’d say, maybe even less. It would be half of what you’d get for a 6N decider, or as TSG suggests, a Bogball All-Ireland.

ok mate, all the figures given on this thread are for the main station only. If Ireland have a big football game, we don’t include BBC, Eurosport, ITV etc etc, Same for the bogsports and for rugby

glad to clarify

Great stuff. Looking forward to seeing the real numbers.

The HD on Eir is significantly better than RTE IMVHO so lot of traffic driven by that and avoidance of Eddie O Sullivan on the punditry

I just assumed everyone watched ITV tbh.

No HD if you have sky. Very annoying. They have decent guests on it. Essentially its the BT sports rugby panel. Not to everyone’s taste

Now , now — the tv rights police like @Tim_Riggins and @Little_Lord_Fauntleroy dont allow any other medium to be taken into account but free to air Irish tv … it’s a balls, but I dont make the rules here.

In fairness it was on at 8 o clock on a Saturday morning. A lot of dads are doing the misery shift with the young kids strapped quietly into prams/highchairs watching Postman Pat and they aren’t going to dream of switching channels for fear of upsetting the child.

So it’s not a fair comparison

Myself and about 10 others watched it in the Lobby of the leisure centre while swimming lessons were on

No he needs to include Eir’s rating.

Irish rugby games always need to be caveated by the impact of the Northern counties, however, given that it is a non partionist sport.
