And?
You need to get the over the “God Bless America” bits. There are a few of them but I tend to just filter them out in my head.
Fraud? What do you mean?
Have you watched them all and in order?
Signiture Explanation:
I think that clip was only added to Youtube recently.
I love the song at the end. Given the storyline of having to kill a foreign diplomat the lyric in the song of “And victorious in war shall be made glorious in peace” is brilliant with the hugely idealistic President fighting with the reality that he has sanctioned the deaths of other people, people he had recently met.
The signiture itself is the interaction the President has with his opponent in the upcoming general election. I love the whole interaction between the two.
try and enjoy one every now & again instead of over analysing things- lighten up

What gets me about it is the kind of false realism it portrays by depicting the deal-making and the double crossing as the real dirt. I just don’t find the idealism of it convincing. Real politics isn’t that centred on the public good, especially at that level. A great show in it’s own right, but it gets me when something is portraying itself as the real deal when it simply isn’t.
Well that is your perception of it and to each their own but it’s never been anything but an overly idealistic alternate reality which became stronger and more obvious when Bush came to power.
Who knows how much real American politics focuses on the public good?
I enjoy the analysis. It’s what stops people missing the point.

In fairness you don’t have to dig too deep to find an answer to that one. Noam Chomsky is a good starting point. The show focuses on something that is incredibly important and it essentially lies about it, and so it winds up between these boundaries that are nice and safe and comfortable. If the makers of The Wire had done the same thing what would it have looked like?
What would the Wire have been like if Aaron Sorkin did it?
Seriously like I don’t know what you point is…
They had loads of consultants working on the show like Dee Dee Myers who was White House press secretary for 2 years under Clinton and many others. So they worked within the knowledge of what it was really like while combining that with the vision of it being an idealistic alternate reality. Not an exact cynical and clinical alternate reality.
If you want a cynical and dark humoured view of politics go watch Yes, Minister.

The Wire sets out to counter the false impressions of important subjects that are held by the public, and it actually has a sense of realism. By contrast The West Wing looks like it is to politics what CSI:Miami is to crime shows.
I watched the first episode of the West Wing recently and hated it. The Hollywood-style soundtrack really grated.
Some large sweeping statements there with no examples.
lonesome dove was on last weekend, watched all in one day, great show, tommy lee jones, robert duval, chris cooper, and a very hot lookin diane lane, one of the finest mini series ever made
Watched first 2 eps of new season of Entourage last night.
Wont say much, its going along nicely enough, but not sure it has the spark of previous seasons. Early stages still though, and Sloane is back, so thats all good.
Just watched s05e05 of weeds. It’s progressing nicely.
Alanis Morrisette guest stars in this episode. I have ep6&7 in the post.

Yeah, Entourage has been pissing me off for a while. it’s all a bit too much like a modern day fairytale.
I’d like if the characters had to deal with a serious problem that doesn’t resolve itself in a benign fashion.
No matter what happens everything works out in the end without anyone even trying. Maybe they want it to be bullshit unrealistic escapism tv but it has been grating on me for a while. Also I agree that it has turned from a boys show in to a girlie rom com show. It’s not really that funny any more.
I’d like if Vince became lonely without everyone with him, started gathering a new entourage of selfish money grabbing dickheads, turned into a crack head and killed E in a car crash. Cos as it stands it’s just the same shit over and over.
It’s a pity too cos I loved the first 4 series.

Acquired the first 3 episodes of Hung.
Watched the pilot a few weeks ago. It was ok. A bit basic… Thought it had potential and expected it to burst into life at any stage. Didn’t happen.
So I was watching the 2nd episode and I had to turn it off. It is just rubbish. Dialogue seems like it written by a 10 year old. I expected much better from a HBO original. It was all so bland.
Avoid… :guns:
On the plus side Weeds S05E06 and S05E07 arrived as expected in the “post”. It is kicking along at a nice pace. It has regained its form somewhat. Andy and Doug are getting back to their best.

"Hung is a comedy series from HBO, created by Dmitry Lipkin and Colette Burson. It stars Thomas Jane as Ray Drecker, a struggling suburban Detroit high school basketball coach who uses his large penis to his advantage, resorting to prostitution."
and you thought this would be a great watch why?
can see what dumpy and NCC would be interested in
