There’s a serious amount of fine tuning you can undertake with pcs when it comes to gaming. The stuff I have here is pretty easy to do and I’m sure if you wanted there’s an array of other tweaks you could implement if you put your mind to it.

  • Download RivaTuner Overclocking program. If you have an nVidia graphics card you can loads with this apparently but I don’t so I just used it for the D3DOverrider program that comes with it. This enables triple buffering which helps to reduce the ‘jumpiness’ you get in demanding games like Empire. I think you need to have vSync unchecked in the game’s video options to get the most out of this.

  • When you’re launching the game, set visual effects to ‘Best Performance’ rather than ‘Best Appearance’ - My Computer - Properties - Advanced Tab - Performance Settings - Visual Effects Tab - Set to best Performance

  • Increase your virtual memory - This improves general system performance, especially with fairly demanding applications. Control Panel - System - Advanced -Performance Settings - Advanced - Virtual Memory. Set to 1.5xtimes your physical RAM at both maximum and initial.

  • Prioritise game - When the game is launched, go to task manager (ctrl+alt+del) and right click the game - select go to process - set priority - set it to high.

There’s plenty of other stuff as well if you trawl the forums. One thing I was using anyway that helps is ReadyBoost which is an easy way to boost system performance.

If you get all this in place I’d recommend trying a historical battle like Brandywine Creek or maybe a naval battle to see how you’re set. If gameplay is tolerable in land battles then you can fire away with a campaign.

Anyone watching Modern Family? Missed it on SKY so DL’d it this week, watched 7 eps today, very very good, very impressed. Ed Nortons cameo in E07 the highlight so far

EZTV and Pirates Bay gone for anyone else?

EZTV still down, but found their twitter page and you can link from there, so thats been working for me so far.

Two other shows I’ve gotten into lately have been Fringe and Misfits.

I’ve spoken about Fringe here before I have it a good run through over the weekend and I must say its dragged me in. A mix between the X Files and Alias would be how I would describe it and once you get through the first couple of stodgy episodes it really takes off. And again, its got Spock in it, what more could you want?

Misfits is a Channel 4 production, basically Heroes/X Men set in a Community Centre in England where we have some kids on community service struck by lightning in a freak storm and they all develop powers. Its a decent english twist on the whole superhero genre and it switches from light to dark very comfortably and quickly. Only 6 episodes in the first season, running about an hour long, it finished up before Christmas and has had a 2nd season commisioned. Very decent.

Watched misfits, its grand nothing epic like.

Started watching Rescue Me again recently forgot how class it is

The ones with Indy as a young kid were shite, but the older ones are holding up well so far. Interesting array of actors popping up in them, including Leo from Fair City as a bar owner in 1916 Dublin and Liz Hurley as a Suffragette in WWI London. Hurley looks fucking well.

S01 down.

I also strongly suggest downloading the VLC media player to watch these things on.[/QUOTE]

It makes all the difference, virtually anything will play on this.

The episode last Monday was absolutely brilliant.
I’ve started watching Our Friends in the North on Youtube. Daniel Craig is rather good in it.

When I watch Seinfeld now I can’t help thinking how much better it would be if Larry David played George.

I can’t recommend Friday Night Lights highly enough.
It’s a cracking little show. Well written, well acted.
You can’t ask for much more.
It’s in S04 now and it is still an excellent show.
In S04 there are two familiar faces for those of you who know the Wire S01 well.
Wallace and D’Angelo both appear. Wallace is a main character in S04.

Finally started to watch season1 of Dexter, I have it for ages, seems decent enough so far.

Have watched all of The Inbetweeners. I appreciate what the hype was about. Cheers for the recommendations.

Mad Men- Is it any good?

In a word yes.

In a few words, the best show on TV since The Sopranos and The West Wing. Set in a 60’s Advertising Agency its from one of the main writers behind The Sopranos and you can tell. You won’t be disappointed.

Good man thanks. Saw the first 2 episodes over the weekend and it looked promising, I’ll stick with it so.

any supernatural fans on here…this show is EPIC…

Great great show. Got onto it about a year ago, think I’ve spoken about it on here in the past. Great soundtrack, decent storyline, and a set end date this season. No shite, good flow, self deprecating when needs be. I preume you’re following it on Living? I’m downloading, spotted S05 starting on Living recently, shaping up to be a cracker.

Mad Men is where it’s at.

Watched about 10 episodes. Liked it, put it down. Need to pick it back up.
