Twitter (Part 1)

Certainly in use around Charleville too. Would also be used as a verb, as in to go gatting. To the extent that mention of the abbreviation for the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade was always met with guffaws in economics class.

I’ve heard all of the following used:

A couple of gatts
Go Gatting
Some man for the gatt

That’s the correct usage alright.

We always used it in Cork anyway.

@gilgamboa, when will you be presenting Ewan with the dossier?

Who said I was giving it to ewan?

Ewan was active on Twitter a couple of hours ago. He tweeted the link to that rugby football article and Paddy Murray (ex-Sunday World?) replied to say he was anti-posh and gives Ireland rugby football too harsh a time.

What’s “the gat”?

I’ve heard the latter two, usually from people with Ballysteen/Askeaton/Kilcornan connections.

:open_mouth:

Weirdos over there

Gatting is bush drinking in cork i.e. drinking in a field or something

Knacker drinking

That was what I said first but out of respect for @rocko I amended it

The g at the end is very silent.
Gattin would often happen outdoors but going for a gat would usually involve a public house.
Murder for the gat would mean taking it any way you can get it.

Ewan is one of the clique, must be a cunt so.

Deep down you like him but out of loyalty to Carter you wont admit it

Who’s this carter fella you keep referring to?

Great men for gatting.

Fond of the gat is a great expression.

Great hurler but fond of the gat.
Ah sure the gat has him ruined
